Stella Lewek

Mrs. Stella (Abramczyck) Lewek, age 96, formerly of Utica and more recently of New Hartford, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on June 15, 1914, Stella was the daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica (Kulig) Abramczyck. She was raised and educated locally. In July of 1942 she married Michael F. Lewek with whom she shared 61 years in a loving union until his passing on May 14, 2003. During her working years, Stella was employed by the Sperry Rand/Univac Corporation. A very active woman, she took great pleasure in socializing with family and friends, and enjoyed trips to various areas in the Northeast. She was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans (PLAV) Walter Skiba Post, and was active with the Senior Citizens Center of East Utica. Stella was very proud to have been a member of the “Disco Dollies”, a dance group that entertained at various functions in the Utica area and also at many local nursing homes. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Auxiliary and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Stella is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Frank and Sandy Lewek of Camillus, and Gerald “Jerry” Lewek of Deerfield. Always close to her heart, was the memory of her son Robert Lewek and her daughter-in-law, Valerie Lewek. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Dana and David Penge of Clay, NY; and her great-grandchildren, Marissa Penge, and Alexis Penge. Survivors also include her brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Roberta “Bobbie” Stys of VT, and Charles Abramczyck of GA; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Stephen Burak, of NY Mills, and Bernice Lewek of Yorkville. She was predeceased by her brothers, John Abramczyck, Stanley Abramczyck, Edward Abramczyck, and Henry Stys. The family is grateful to the staff of the St. Luke’s Home/ Clark East unit, and the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, for the care and support offered to Stella. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-11:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Stella’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. Anthony P. LaFache officiating. Interment will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
