Dr. Shree Prakash Vidyarthi

DEERFIELD — Dr. Shree Prakash Vidyarthi, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born on April 1, 1941, in Patna, Bihar, India, Shree was the son of the late Jaimina P. and Tara Devi Vidyarthi. Raised and educated in Patna, he then went on to Denmark to obtain his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. In pursuit of a better and successful life for his family, he came to the United States in 1972 with only $200 and the shirt on his back. His work ethic and intellect led to his career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with the United States Department of Agriculture. On June 18, 1966, he wed the former Champa Gupta in India. They shared a blessed union raising their children with strong morals, values, and an appreciation for their Hindu heritage, particularly its rich culture, language, and cuisine. Shree was social, outgoing, and charming. He very much enjoyed networking and the friendships he made throughout his life. He was known for his charitable, caring, and compassionate nature. Shree was a generous spirit and a steadfast provider who valued education and a strong work ethic. He took immense pride in his children's achievements, yet nothing compared to the joy he derived from his grandchildren who truly filled his heart. In his leisure time, Shree enjoyed gardening, admiring fine automobiles, and spending time with friends over tea, food, and lively conversation. Shree is survived by his wife, Champa; daughters and sons-in-law, Alka and Michael Sowich, and Aneeta and Derek Shepardson; daughter-in-law Sarah E. (Burch) Vidyarthi; daughter and son-in-law, Rani and Rakesh Agrawal. He held close to his heart the memory of his daughter, Anu Vidyarthi, who passed away in infancy; and his son, Satyapriya “Satch” Vidyarthi, who preceded him on January 25, 2023. He will always remain Nanu to his precious grandchildren, Anjali Sowich, Ayanna Sowich; Priya Shepardson, Luke Shepardson; Nikhil Agrawal, Zubin Agrawal, and Pari Agrawal. He also leaves behind many family members in both India and the US. The family extends their gratitude to the lovely ladies who assisted Shree in the last few months of his journey and to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their kindness. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Shree’s funeral service will commence at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Final prayers will be held at the Crematory at Forest Hill.
