Mrs. Shirley E. (McKay) Arlotto

Mrs. Shirley E. (McKay) Arlotto, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Siegenthaler Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Hudson, NY on November 1, 1925, Shirley was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Uhrig) McKay. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica Free Academy. On June 9, 1956 she married Albert T. Arlotto with whom she shared a union of 53 years, one that was based upon their enduring love and mutual respect prior to his passing on December 2, 2009. At one time Shirley worked for General Electric Company where she held an office position at the Broad Street facility. She then accepted employment with Oneida County in the Data Processing Department, the position from which she retired in 1982. Throughout her life, Shirley nurtured an avid and compelling interest in current events as detailed in the worldwide, national, and local media. Attentive to all reputable sources, she often listened to radio journalists and commentators, including Paul Harvey, finding their offerings to be especially informative and educational. As a woman of honest character and strong convictions, Shirley would present her own well-informed opinions and views with confidence and persuasiveness. Also adept at expressing herself in the written word, she was admired for her writing talent, style, and ability to communicate her ideas. She was highly respected and appreciated by family and friends for these and numerous other qualities of character and personality. Among her favored leisure interests, she especially loved gardening and music. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jerry Lane of Rochester; her son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Maureen Tanury of Toddville Iowa; her grandchildren, Steven and Jeannine Lane, Jeffrey and Danielle Lane, James “JT”, and Kari Tanury; and her great-grandchildren, Samantha Lynn Lane, and K’La Valentine. She will also be remembered by her in-laws, Rose Mary Black of Barneveld, and Marcelino Pagan of Marcy; her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her stepfather, James W. Black; sister, Beverly Pagan; brother, James G. Black; nephew, William Black, and a number of in-laws and members of the Arlotto family. The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., especially caregiver Julie Kiss. Her compassion and kindness will not be forgotten. Also, to all of those who provided loving care to Shirley throughout the years. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, please omit floral offerings. Shirley’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday evening at 6:00 immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Sister Betty Giarrusso, CSJ officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY at the convenience of the family.
