Sandra A. (Sikorowicz) Bauer Johnson

MARCY - Sandra A. (Sikorowicz) Bauer Johnson, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in the comfort of her home. Born in Herkimer on July 26, 1944, Sandra was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Palma (D’Amico) Sikorowicz. She was a graduate of Mohawk High School/Class of 1962. She was married to Charles “Fred” Bauer and to that union came the blessing of their daughter Cheryl. He was a strong presence in their family life and upon his passing, Sandra missed and spoke of him in a loving way. She was blessed with a second union when she wed Newman “Jerry” Johnson; they were connected by common bonds including traveling and dancing which made for many merry memories prior to his death. For a number of years, Sandy worked at the Oneida County Clerk’s Office as a Micro Filming specialist, the position from which she retired. Strong and independent, she was an intelligent woman with strong political views. She was family-oriented and time spent with her loved ones was precious. She celebrated each holiday with her own flair and festive fashion, and she never did anything in a small way. An avocation she appreciated was floral and vegetable gardening. She was athletic during her younger years and she especially enjoyed swimming and tennis. Ice skating was her favorite sport, and she was a self-taught figure skater, and later was professionally trained in the fine points of the sport. It was an activity she shared with her daughter, and at the age of 2 years old, she had her on the ice. Sandy was of the Catholic faith. She was most proud of being a mother, spending time in harmony with her loves, being blessed with the birth of her grandchildren, and always visiting them, …because Nana was special to them and love was abundant. Sandra is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jeff McGough; grandchildren, Braden, and Carson Schmidle; and her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Gary Szablak. She will also be remembered by her niece, Jackie Keida who was her aunt’s support system and always provided good care for her; and her neighbors, Kristine and John, Kathy and Kyle who helped with her care, holiday celebrations, and tending to her home. Cheryl and her family wish to thank them for their compassion and kindness. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
