Sally M. Gumina

Sally M. Gumina, age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Utica on October 21, 1923, Sally was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lucy (Mallozzi) Gumina. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School and subsequently continued her studies at the Utica School of Commerce (USC). At one time, Sally held employment during World War II at the Savage Arms Company. She also held an office position at the former Boston Store in downtown Utica where she was promoted to a Management position serving both the Latham and Schenectady Boston Store locations. Sally was a caring and devoted woman who thought of her family as the most important part of her life and the heart of her happiness; her love was reciprocated by everyone in her circle of life. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Sally is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Advocate of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Lucille Gumina of Oneida; her brother-in-law, Robert Burdash of Binghamton, also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and dear family friend, Barbara Rudd. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Vincent Orlando, and Norma Burdash; and her brothers, Arthur A. “Art” Gumina, and Joseph E. Gumina, and Bert Gumina. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides of the Mapleview Unit at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care & Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care, and Fr. Richard Kapral for his prayers and spiritual guidance. In keeping with Sally’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sally's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
