Rosina (Eannace) Colarusso

Mrs. Rosina (Eannace) Colarusso, age 94, of Utica, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Little Falls, NY, on May 28, 1913, Rosina was the daughter of the late Vincent and Josephine (Gallo) Eannace. She came to the Utica area in 1960 where she has since resided. She was capped as a Registered Nurse from St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany with the class of 1936. On April 21, 1941 she married Carmen Colarusso with whom she shared a union of love and devotion until his passing on September 12, 1957. Rosina held nursing positions at Leonard Hospital in Troy, NY for 5 years, the Mary McLellan Hospital in Cambridge, NY, and the Faxton Hospital in Utica for 18 years, retiring in 1979. A strong woman whose life revolved around her two sons, she carried on the roles of mother and father. She had a keen sense of humor, and loved to cook Italian dishes for her family. She volunteered at the Greenwich Fire Department at their annual spaghetti dinner fund raiser. She was a member of the Faxton Hospital Nursing Association, the New York State Nursing Association, and the Scleroderma Foundation, of which she was one of its first members, and was also mentioned in a medical journal article as one of the first people diagnosed with the disease. Devoutly religious, Rosina was in touch with her Catholic faith, and was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Rosina is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David and Laurie Colarusso of Utica, and Garry Colarusso of Clinton; and her grandchildren, Deacon Kern Colarusso of Washington, DC, and Grayson Kern Colarusso, a student at SUNY Plattsburgh. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her in-law, Aldo Di Raimo of Utica. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Margaret Ann “Maggie” Kern, who passed away on July 20, 2002; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Josephine Di Raimo, who passed away on December 13, 1999, and Rene and Donald Richardson. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Rosina’s honor to the Scleroderma Foundation, or Historic Old St. John’s Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Rosina’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend graveside services which will take place on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Greenwich, NY.
