Rose Marie (Schnitt) Astalfa

Mrs. Rose Marie (Schnitt) Astalfa, age 75, of N. Utica, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her family by her side. Born in Utica on August 28, 1930, Rose was the daughter of the late Walter and Frances (Duda) Schnitt. She was raised here and attended local schools. On April 23, 1949 she married Albert A. Astalfa with whom she has shared a 56-year union that was blessed with much love and happiness. At one time Mrs. Astalfa was employed as a machine operator for Empire Tackle. She then accepted a similar position at Sturdy Togs where she worked for numerous years. Although she was a dedicated and conscientious employee, she considered her primary vocation in life to be that of family woman and homemaker. As leisure activities, she greatly enjoyed attending craft shows, and she had many good times at the Whitestown VFW. Mrs. Astalfa is survived by her husband, Allie; her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joanne Astalfa of Marcy; and her beloved grandchildren, Joey Astalfa and Courtney Astalfa, who gave renewed meaning and purpose to her life. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including Linda Triveri, Julia Spina, Mary Ruffo and Nancy Astalfa; and her very special friends, Mark Rossi and Elaine Bambury, both of Rome. The family extends its loving appreciation and gratitude to Rose's daughter-in-law, Joanne, who was truly an "Angel of Mercy," as well as Dr. Jerry Sloan and the entire staff of the ICU at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center for all their kindnesses and compassion. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider honoring Rose's memory with a Mass at her home parish of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, which will be available at the funeral home during calling hours. Mrs. Astalfa's funeral will commence on Friday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
