Rose M. (Widman) Raiano

Mrs. Rose M. (Widman) Raiano, age 84, of New Hartford, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2006 at the St. Luke’s Home with her family by her side. Born in Ohio on November 23, 1921, Rose was the daughter of the late Leopold and Helena (Gentilia) Widman. During her childhood, her family relocated to the Utica area where she was subsequently raised and educated. On August 17, 1945 she married Alexander T. “Alex” Raiano, Sr. with whom she shared a blessed and devoted union of 40 years prior to his passing on January 29, 1986. Mrs. Raiano enjoyed a successful career in sales. Many Uticans will remember her fondly for the helpful assistance and conscientious service she provided in such notable local businesses as Pickers Fashions, Bab’s Boutique, and the Hersch Shop. Rose was always a dedicated family woman. In more recent years, her most rewarding pleasures have come from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. Mrs. Raiano is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Alex T. Jr. and Patricia Raiano of Whitesboro; her grandchildren, Shelly Raiano and Chris Northrup, Lori Raiano-North and her husband, Rob, and Alexander T. Raiano III and his wife, Shelly, all of New Hartford; and her great-grandchildren, Alexander T. Raiano IV, Abigail Rose Northrup, and Samuel Northrup. She is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rena and Ed Kellogg of Elmira, and Pat and Ed Murphy of N. Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, Luke and Helen Raiano of New Hartford, and Robert Raiano of Chicago IL. She was predeceased by a number of in-laws. The family offers its sincere thanks to the outstanding nurses and staff of Clark East of the St. Luke’s Home as well as to the wonderful nurses of the 6th floor at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. The family extends special gratitude and affection to Rose’s roommate, Beatrice White, for being a good friend and companion. Visitation will be held tomorrow morning (Tuesday) from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. Raiano’s funeral will commence on Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home and at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
