Rose E. Tomaino

Miss Rose E. Tomaino, of Utica, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on June 2, 1915, Rose was the daughter of the late Santo and Antoinette (Talarico) Tomaino. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Rose began a rewarding work career at the age of 18 with Brant Brothers Corp. She was a talented and accomplished floral designer and she also managed the responsibilities of the business for many years. As a loyal, dedicated, and trusted associate, she held numerous positions with the Lane family, who considered her “as well as family”. Her organizational skills and commitment to them were known to the very day of her passing ---a well accomplished career of 74 years and the fortune of working until the age of 92. The matriarch of her family, she was supportive and attentive to her nieces and nephews who held her in admiration. She was affectionately known to many as “Aunt Rose”. An avid gardener, she remained physically active, attending aerobic classes until recently. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida and to Otter Lake in the summer. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Rose is survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Antoinette and Malcolm Mackenzie, Frank and Celeste Giudice, Santa Romanowski, Rosemary and Frank Gerace, Joseph Tomaino, Griselda Tomaino, Tricia and Vinny Nistico, Santo and Lee Tomaino, Angela and Byron Elias, and Peter and Rosemary Tomaino; and her numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with many dear friends. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law, Jennie and Michael Giudice, Mary Tomaino, and Catherine A. Tomaino; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Pasquale Tomaino, J. Anthony “Tony” and Catherine Tomaino, and her twin brother Peter and his wife Dolly Tomaino; her niece, Theresa Giudice; and her nephew, Frank Romanowski. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Rose’s attending physicians. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family graciously accepts floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Rose’s honor to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Rose’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
