Rose B. (Wehby) Joseph

Mrs. Rose B. (Wehby) Joseph, age 78, of Utica, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2007 following a brief illness, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on December 16, 1928, Rose was the daughter of the late Anthony Abraham and Morro (George) Wehby. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On March 31, 1951 she married Mark A. Joseph who passed away on January 21, 2003. Throughout the 51 years of their life together, Mark and Rose were good companions to one another, sharing in the joy, pride, and responsibilities of their steadfast commitment to their children and family. At one time Rose held a position as a sales lady at the Boston Store. Her family was the heart of her existence, and she enjoyed time spent with them. She took pride in cooking, and shared her delicious meals with her loved ones. She truly treasured the blessing of her great- grandchildren and they were the light of her life. During her spare time, she delighted in the excitement of her card games, and valued the love and friendship she derived from her weekly visits with her friends at the Jo-Mar Beauty Salon. She was a communicant of St. Louis Gonzaga Church, and the St. Moura Ladies’ Society. Rose is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terry M. and Jon Bowker of Stittville; her sons and daughter-in-law, Larry V. and Sherry Joseph of North Utica, and Richard A. “Rick” Joseph of Utica; her grandchildren, Kristopher P. Joseph and his fiancée Jennifer Turczyn of Utica; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Kristopher A. Joseph and Juliana I. Joseph who provided her with inspiration. Also surviving are her sisters, Gloria Wehby, and Sadie Ann Wehby both of Utica, and Catherine “Lola” Hiffa of New York Mills; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Palma “Pam” Wehby, and Vera Berbary, both of Utica, Matilda Ferris of FL, Mary and Joseph Eade of Olean, NY, Christine Leone of Utica, and Neamor Joseph of CA. She was predeceased by her brother, Abraham J. “Abe” Wehby; and many in-laws, including William Hiffa. The family extends gratitude to Fr. Bassam Saade for his spiritual mentoring and guidance. Also, the Utica Fire Dept. Rescue One, and the entire staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their care and professionalism. In keeping with the family's wishes, there will no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather for Rose’s funeral service which will commence on Tuesday morning at 11:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Bassam Saade, Pastor. Her family will graciously receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
