Mrs. Rose C. (Latte) Zegarelli

Mrs. Rose C. (Latte) Zegarelli, age 101, entered into Heaven as she passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the comfort and company of her loving family. Born in Utica on May 24, 1915, Rose was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Leogrande) Latte. She attended Utica Free Academy. On June 1, 1940, a “twist in the family tree” occured with a double wedding. Rose married Louis Zegarelli, and Rose’s brother Dominick married Louis’ sister, Mary Zegarelli. Rose and Louis had a classic Italian marriage filled with children, grandchildren, and plenty of fried meatballs! Rose and Louis were blessed with 57 years of marriage until his passing on March 10, 1998. Rose began her working life at the area knitting mills as did most women of her generation. She later accepted a position at the General Electric Aerospace Division on French Road where she worked in Quality Control as an Inspector on many major projects including the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space flight programs. Although she had outside employment, her heart belonged in her home and with her beloved family. Rose was a light-hearted and spirited woman with a gentle and kind soul. She was blessed with intelligence balanced by a humble nature. She was the nurturer of the family, and many generations of loved ones sat at her kitchen table where they solved world problems and shared her great sense of humor. Rose hosted holiday celebrations that included many family members and loads of excitement. She always had time to babysit her grand and great-grandchildren. Being around the youngsters would always make her heart sing and kept her young. Rose and Louis enjoyed their winter home in Largo, FL which allowed them to spend time with family who lived in the sunny state. Rose was born of the Catholic faith and later worshiped at the Moravian Church of the Good Shepherd. Her husband maintained a more than 50-year affiliation with the Masonic Lodge and as a couple they participated in the many events of the Carducci Lodge. Rose had a happy, agreeable nature, and for 101 years she sought peace and harmony. The legacy of her love lives on in her children and the generations of good people they became. Rose is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Michael Roswig of Troy/Deerfield, and her son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Kathleen Zegarelli of Ballston Lake. Always close to her heart was the memory of her beloved daughter, Theresa “Terry” Pauley who passed away on March 27, 2016. She also leaves her grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Karen Pauley, John Pauley, Christopher and Lora Pauley, Todd and Julie Pauley, Michael and Suzanne Pauley; and Anthony and Jennifer Zegarelli . She was preceded by her infant granddaughter, Lisa Paige Pauley. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jack, Maya Rose, and Elise; Jonathan, Trey, Ian, and Ryann; Brandon, Anthony, Luna, and Evie; and Arlo; her beloved nieces, especially acknowledging Marie Bravo; beloved nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Monica Latte, and Nancy Hrybiniak; and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmella and Peter Butera, Josephine and Ernest Perry; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dominick and Mary Latte, Marino and Mary Latte, Joseph and Stella Latte, Dante and Marie Latte, and William Latte; and her in-laws, Benjamin and Sistine Zegarelli, Mary and Dominick Latte, Mafalda and Sam Scalzo, Jerry and Genevieve Zegarelli, Michael Zegarelli, and Josephine and Harrison Hall. The family extends sincere gratitude to the nurses, certified nurse assistants, and the entire staff of the Willoway Unit at the Lutheran Home for their superb and loving care rendered to Rose during her stay, and especially during her final hours. Visitation will be held Friday, November 4th from 4:00-6:00 at the New Hartford First United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee Street, New Hartford, NY. Rose’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence upon conclusion of visitation at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Chesebro and Minister Kent Trievil officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will take place graveside in Crown Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton at the convenience of the family.
