Mrs. Rose Lewis

UTICA - Mrs. Rose Lewis, age 86, was reunited with her husband when she passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the St. Luke’s Home with her loving family by her side. Born in Bekarzala, Akkar, Lebanon on February 8, 1932, Rose was the daughter of the late George and Nabeha (Tohme) Lewis. She was raised and educated in Lebanon. Rose married Peter Zeina and they immigrated to America settling in Utica, NY. Peter passed away on February 10, 1994. Rose worked alongside family and friends at Abelove’s Linen Supply for numerous years. She was gracious and generous in spirit, a compassionate and sensitive soul and she loved to listen to authentic Arabic music. Rose enjoyed cooking, baking, and caring for her home. Rose was a woman of strong faith, belonging to St. Louis Gonzaga Church. She was a member of St. Joseph Society and the St. Maura Society. Rose is survived by her children Louis and Marcella Lewis, David and Rita Lewis, and Leona and John Abounader. Always in her heart was the memory of her infant daughter who died at birth. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Andrea and Michael Carney, Ashley Lewis and boyfriend Anthony Morat; Rachel, David, and Renee Lewis; Jennifer and Andrew Ciesla, Michele Abounader and spouse Stephanie Sowka, and Nicholas Abounader; great-grandson, Philip Clark; brother, Charles Lewis; numerous and beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, relatives in Lebanon, sister-in-law, Linda Lewis; and the many close and memorable friends. Special mention to, Antoinette Zeina, who went above and beyond for her Aunt Rose for many years and was like a daughter to her. Rose was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Georgette (Lewis) and George Nehme, Anthony and Mary Ann Lewis, and Joseph Lewis. The family was blessed with the home care of Zaffa, Terri, Linda, and Rosie who did a remarkable job and lastly the St. Luke’s Home whose Barton East staff rendered kindness, compassion, and outstanding care to Rose, especially Brenda, Joe, Robin, and Jen. The family is grateful for the spiritual guidance and prayers of Chorbishop John D. Faris, and Deacon Paul Salamy. The family honored and commemorated Rose’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rose’s Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed on Wednesday, February 28th at 12:30 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Rose’s memory may make a donation to St. Louis Gonzaga Church; envelopes will be available at the service.
