Mrs. Rose L. (Cavaretta) Brescia

Mrs. Rose L. (Cavaretta) Brescia, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Utica on October 4, 1924, Rose was the daughter of the late Philip & Frances (Giruzzi) Cavaretta. She was raised and educated locally. On June 30, 1951 she was wed to Orest Brescia, and the couple shared a loving and devoted union up until his passing. A naturally hard-working and diligent person, Rose held positions as a cook at various area businesses. She also worked at GE for a time as well as at the Marcy State Hospital where she cared for others as a Nurse’s Aide. Rose was a woman known for her loving and compassionate ways; and it showed in the great care she took of her husband, daughter and home. She was a kind and friendly neighbor who enjoyed entertaining, parties and music of all kinds. As a devout Catholic, Rose was a past parishioner of many area churches, including the former St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Anne Parish and St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church. She was a member of the Good News Foundation at St. Joseph & St. Patrick where she thoroughly enjoyed her time catering festivities and helping in anyway she could. Rose is survived by her daughter, Karen Brescia of Utica; always close to her heart was the memory of her infant son, Francis Brescia, who died at birth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins, with special mention of MaryAnn Bruno, Margaret Delgenio, Phil Cavaretta and Butch Cavaretta. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank “Hank” Cavaretta, Leo Cavaretta and Paul Cavaretta; and her in-laws, Sarah Canarelli, Ann Spenacchio, Cora Gottuso, Domenica Gaetano, Albert Brescia and Louis Brescia. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rose’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., Utica, corner of Hammond Ave, officiated by Rev. John Buehler. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
