Rosaria "Sara" Restive

Mrs. Rosaria “Sara” (Spano) Restive, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 12, 2012 in the comfort and dignity of her home. Born in Utica on September 17, 1924, Rosaria was the daughter of the late Ciro and Vincenza “Jennie” (Mineo) Spano. Raised and educated locally, she attended Wetmore Elementary School. At one time, she was married to Maynard Restive who passed away on June 9, 2003. For many years, Sara held various positions in the family enterprise, Spano Brothers Bakery (Ohio Baking Company). After she raised her children, she returned to work at the family bakery. Sara was a compassionate, protective, and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed following the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was proud of her Italian heritage and was an active participant in the local Italian choir. She was a great homemaker and was known to her family as an “old school” cook. She enjoyed spending her summers at the family lake house at Sylvan Beach where she always invited friends and family to visit. In her younger years Sara had an artistic skill for sculpturing and took classes at Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute. She continued to sculpt through the years as her children grew older. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Sara is survived by her children and their spouses, Mario and Linda Restive of Frankfort, Regina and Joseph F. Arcuri III of Liverpool, and Vincent and Joan Restive of Deerfield; her grandchildren, Lareina and Jim Welch, Larisa and Gary Black, Mario Restive and Melissa Berower, Brandon V. Arcuri, Alisha Restive, and Dominic Restive. She always cherished the memory of her grandson, Joseph F. “Joe” Arcuri IV, who passed away on May 6, 2012; and carried in heart the love of his wife Noelle. She also leaves to learn of her legacy her great-grandchildren, Sidonie Foster, Everett Welch, Joseph F. “Joey” Arcuri V, and Lilly May Black; her sisters, Mary Spano, and Jacqueline Davis both of Maryland; her brother, Joseph Spano of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, Bridget Williams who was Sara’s caregiver, Maryann Dubiel, Olga Pietrafessa, and Jane Bozak. She was predeceased by her brother, John Spano; and her in-laws, Elaine Spano, and William “Bill” Davis. A great appreciation is extended to Sara’s caregiver, Bridget Williams, for all the care and attention shown to Sara over the years. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Sara’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark P. Kaminski. Entombment will take place in Christ Our Savior Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.

September 17, 1924 - December 12, 2012
