Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Richardson Sr.

Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Richardson, Sr., age 80, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 in the comfort and privacy of his home. Born in Unadilla, Georgia on March 28, 1933, Robert was the son of the late Alfred Richardson and the late Mamie Mayo. He was raised and educated in Georgia. Bob had been married to Helen Maybin who preceded him in death. For 20 years he shared his life in marriage with Jane Furness. Bob began his employment years at Beaunit Fibers Company where he worked as a machinist. He subsequently held positions as a machine operator for 14 years at Revere Copper & Brass, Inc. in Rome, NY, a manager of a truck driving center at the Empire Career Center, and lastly as a bus driver for the St. Francis De Sales Center. Bob was a man who wore many hats signifying different roles or tasks he performed. He was dexterous and adept at working with his hands and took pride in his abilities as a carpenter and plumber, often helping those around him which included maintenance, repairs and additions at various local churches. He also held a Mechanics License and took pride in his capabilities of fixing automobiles. He was fond of fishing at local lakes and marinas and found much joy in journeying north to Alexandria Bay and the 1,000 Islands in the St. Lawrence River for exciting angling adventures. Bob was devoted to his faith in God and participated in many church functions at his home parish, Friendship Baptist Church where he served as Head Deacon. Bob is survived by his daughter who was his best friend and son-in-law, Yvonne and Louis Richards of Utica. He held close to his heart the memories of his children who passed before him, Robert L. Richardson, Jr., and Tunetta Jackson. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Norman, Jayvon; Latoya, Rasheen; Edward, and Jashaun; his great-grandchildren; his sister, Carrie; his brothers, John, and Jessie; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends, Willie Mitchell, Arthur Lee, John Coleman, and Rev. Charles March. He was predeceased by several siblings. The family extends sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Cardio-Thoracic Progressive Unit at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all their care and attention. Thanks also to Bob’s friends from church for all their prayers and cards of comfort. The family will honor and celebrate Bob’s life and Home Going in a private gathering. Bob’s funeral service and Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery privately at the convenience of the family.
