Mr. Richard James Reittinger

Richard James Reittinger, 52, of Austin, TX, passed away on December 30, 2015, after a hard fought 14-month battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Richard was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica, NY on November 16, 1963. He attended St. Agnes Grammar School and Parish, graduated from T. R. Proctor High School in 1981, and went on to graduate from Utica College with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Finance. Richard attended Thomas Cooley School of Law in Lansing, MI, earning his JD in Law in September 1989 and was admitted to the New York State Bar in June of 1990. Richard enjoyed a long and distinguished legal career. In New York State, he was an associate attorney with Calli, Calli & Cully Law Firm of Utica from 1990 – 1998 as well as an Assistant District Attorney in Herkimer County from 1992 – 2000, and partner in Reittinger & Reittinger, LLP from 1998 – 2004. Richard was also co-owner of the Mountainside Restaurant and Lodge in Eagle Bay, NY from 2000 – 2004. Upon moving to Sebastian, FL, he founded and owned Wealth Management, Inc. and was actively involved in the practice of tax law with his brother Robert as managing partner of Reittinger & Associates through 2014. Richard loved life and adored his 9 year old daughter, Adriana. He touched so many people with compassion, kindness and his quick and witty sense of humor. Richard also enjoyed sport and clay shooting as well as quail hunting, which he pursued in many trips around the country as well as overseas. Richard is survived by his daughter, Adriana Reittinger, his mother, Jane Reittinger, and his sister, Jacqueline Reittinger Wallace, of Austin, TX; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Kathi Reittinger of Utica, NY, and Robert and Patricia Reittinger, Holland Patent, NY; as well as nieces and nephews, Laura Wallace, D. Thomas Wallace III and Nicholas Reittinger, of Austin, TX; Sarah Reittinger, DMD, Boston, MA; Jennifer Walker, Sauquoit, NY; Erin Ruffing, Utica, NY; and Shannon Cherry, Walnut Creek, CA, as well as many other family members, aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves behind many very close friends including Joe Murine, Mark Redmond, Christopher Lambert, Todd Bennett Esq., D. Thomas Wallace II, Ron Gustafson, Paul and Frannie Baldassano, Dr. Mark and Janet Werking, Dr. Tim Sigmund, Barry Shapiro, Dr. Kenneth Palistrant, and his hunting friends the “Irregulars” at Quail Creek Plantation who supported him and his family throughout his illness. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Reittinger, in 2010. Richard’s family would like to thank the staff members of MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, TX, Altus Hospice Care of Austin, TX, and especially honor his sister Jackie in whose home he resided during his illness along with his mother and niece, Laura, and daughter Adriana, who cared for him and remained by his side during his illness. Visitation will be held from 4 PM – 7 PM on Friday, January 22, 2016, at Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. His memorial mass will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church, 422 Tilden Ave, Utica, NY 13501 on Saturday, January 23, 2016 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Development Office Unit 705, P.O.
