Ramon M. "Mickey" Colon

Mr. Ramon M. “Mickey” Colon, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the comfort of his home. Born in Cuamo, Puerto Rico on February13, 1955, Ramon was the son of Ramon M. Colon and Zulma Santiago. Raised and educated locally, he attended T.R. Proctor High School. On May 29, 1976 he married the former Laurie Jones with whom he shared 38 years in a union of love, joy, and fulfillment. Mickey held a position as a Butcher at Utica Veal Company and was a member of the Meat Cutters Union. A loving patriarch, he found the most joy having all the family together at his home to partake of good food and music. He was devoted to his immediate family and extended family as well. He was proud to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Mickey was full of life and full of fun, and always ready with a joke. He was an avid fan of Western movies, often taping them and watching them over and over. Mickey was also a talented woodworker and craftsman and remodeled and modernized his home, an accomplishment of which he was so proud. Mickey is survived by his wife, Laurie; his parents, Ramon and Sara Colon, and Zulma Santiago; his daughter, Jackie Colon; his son, Michael Colon; and his grandchildren, Miguel, Joshua, Michael, Alex, and Tiana. He will also be missed by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian and Louie Rodriguez, and Nancy and Tato Berrios; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Maria Colon, Hiram and Maria Colon, Tati and Hilda Mateo, Cany and Virgen Mateo, and Berto and Miribel Mateo; his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; son-in-law, Victor Ortega, and in-laws, Sharon and Jim Kilts, Cheryl and Bob Santomassino, Deborah and John Amodio, Linda Jones, Janet Jones, Tracy Jones and John, Jerry and Linda Jones, Raymond and Robin Jones, David and Marie Jones, Leonard and Mary Jane Jones, and Brenda Felski; and his loyal canine, Sam, and feathered friend, Mona. He was predeceased by his son, Miguel Angel Colon; and several in-laws. Visitation will be held Monday from 1-2 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Ramon’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Rev. John Buehler officiating. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
