Phyllis A. (Lauria) Ross

Mrs. Phyllis A. (Lauria) Ross, age 71, formerly of North Utica and currently of Whitesboro, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Katherine Luther Home with her loving family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Utica on December 17, 1936, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Salvatore G. and Virginia E. (Cichello) Lauria. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. In April of 1965 she married Michael J. Ross with whom she shared a loving union until his passing on March 25, 1966. Phyllis retired from her career as a sales administrator at Utica Cutlery after years of loyal and conscientious service. Even through the most difficult of adversities, Phyllis maintained her selfless nature always with a smile on her face and happy-go-lucky attitude that her family will dearly miss. The most important consideration in her life was her family’s contentment, a loving commitment to which she devoted herself. She was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in North Utica. Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra Ann and Nelson Pohoreskey of Whitesboro, with whom she resided; and her granddaughter, Brittany M. Pohoreskey, who she referred to as her pride and joy. Survivors also include her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille M. and Nicholas Soldo of Maryland; her aunt, Mary Carlesimo of Utica; her nieces, nephews and their families, and cousins, especially Frances and Tom Mannino; and her in-laws, Barbara and David Marosek. She held a great affection for her canine companion, Spade. The family extends appreciation to the Gordon Unit of the Katherine Luther Home for the love and care shared with Phyllis and her family, social worker Roxanne Barrett for her special attention and concern; and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., especially Linda Barlow, R.N., JoAnn Wolcott, and Gail Baldwin for their heartfelt support and vigilance. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Phyllis' funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 8:00 from the funeral home and at 9:00 at St. Peter's Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
