Mr. Peter A. "Papa" DeCarlis

CLARK MILLS - Mr. Peter A. “Papa” DeCarlis passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the age of 69, after a very brief illness. At the time of his passing he was in the hearts of those he cherished the most Peter was born in Utica on August 11, 1953, to the late Paul and Augustine (Elacqua) DeCarlis. Peter was an “East Utica Boy” through and through. Peter married Pamela “Pam” Lynch. They were crazy about one another and their marriage. Peter and Pam were of the free-spirited, love, and rock & roll era, and they did the best they could to make life work. Peter was a good provider, and through it all, they loved each other to the end. Pam passed away on May 12, 2020. Peter was employed by Special Metals for over 30 years as a Final Inspector. He was a self-taught drummer, and over the years played with numerous artists and bands. He was blessed to have a great friendship from his youth with Freddy Piperata, which was truly a blessing to both of them—now they are reunited and jamming once again. In his younger years, along with his brother Roger, Peter was a bit of a body-builder and enjoyed participating in competitions. Peter was a man with character and conversation! He was never at a loss for words. As a father he imparted his wisdom, was a great listener, and was never shy about giving advice. He would say it all, especially when it came to his daughter. When his children were grown, Peter continued to be a hard worker but found the time to take his family camping at Lake George and Enchanted Forest. He was so generous and always wanted to treat the kids to a great time, which made wonderful memories for all of them. He tried to be the best Papa to his grandchildren. He was a taxi-driver, a babysitter, and was always sensitive and patient with their needs. Peter was a casino-goer when he played the slots at Turning Stone Casino. Food was the center of family gatherings and Peter was a pizza connoisseur in particular. He savored the flavor of every bite as a true foodie! In their younger years, Christmas Eve was a cherished memory—Nana DeCarlis did it up!!! Peter believed in a “higher power” and was always in touch with his spiritual side. For the past twenty years, Peter shared his life with Theresa Vetere. He was proud that he was able to take care of her, and enjoyed her companionship. Peter is survived by his daughters, Lizza DeCarlis, and her fiancé Jason Matos; and Jaimy Sanchez; and his son, Jason DeCarlis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan Sainsbury, Simone Sainsbury; and Brianna Lizza DeCarlis; as well as his siblings, Marianne and Dick Yacco, Michele DeCarlis, and Roger and Celeste DeCarlis. He also leaves his nieces, especially Lisa Pavia, and Carrie LoGalbo; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; his goddaughter, Laura Piperata; and Marissa Mario, and Asalma Grinnage who he looked upon as daughters. He is also survived by his dear companion, Theresa, who was also a wonderful friend; and his friends, Jerry, and Kenny, who were the breakfast group. Peter’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians who attended him in his finals days, especially Dr. Kenneth Hall and his staff, who were great to Peter and attended to him on a personal level. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Peter's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
