Paul L. Chieco

Mr. Paul L. Chieco, age 86, formerly of Sylvan Beach and more recently of Clinton, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Katherine Luther Home. His family was by his side at the time of his passing. Born in Utica on June 30, 1919, Paul was the son of the late Leonardo A. and Jennie (Salamido) Chieco. He was raised and educated locally. On May 31, 1947 he was joined in marriage with the former Ruth Rinaldi, with whom he shared a union of 52 years prior to her passing on April 20, 2000. Mr. Chieco was employed at GAFB where he worked as a refueler for the base's aircraft until his retirement in 1971. Paul always showed great respect for others and the old-world values, a fact which endeared him to his children and family members and also inspired them. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Mr. Chieco is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joanna and Chuck Kelly of Clinton, with whom he resided, and Paula Collins of Aiken, SC; and a son, Leopoldo Chieco of Daytona Beach, FL. He cherished in his heart the memory of his son, Leonard Chieco, who passed away on April 6, 1971. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Roseanne Young, and her husband, Nick; and his grandchildren, Richard Murphy, Paul and Edie Kelly, Lisa and Ron Torgalski, Chante Kelly, Sherry Marzen, William and Lisa Jones, Leonard Jones, Michael Collins and Daniel Collins. Ever close to his heart was his grandson, Paul L. Chieco, who preceded him in death in 2002. In addition, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, Laureen and Emma, Nicholas and Tyler, Heather, Jennifer, and Anthony, and Brittany. He was predeceased by his great-grandson, "Baby Paul." Also surviving are a sister, Julia Cecere of FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Philip J. and Dolores Chieco of Utica; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family extends its very deep appreciation to Dr. Kandiah of the St. Elizabeth Medical Group in Clinton, and to the nurses and staff of the Katherine Luther Home, especially those of the Gordon Unit, all of whom attended Mr. Chieco with outstanding care and concern. The personal connection with each one of these health care professionals established with him was a great comfort to him and his family. Paul's loved ones are thankful to one and all for the love and care which they shared with him, especially his son, Leo, Sherri Gileece-Nester, Dolores Chieco, Dan Alberico. In keeping with Paul's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mr. Chieco's funeral on Thursday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
