Mrs. Pauline J. (Roberts) Rizzo

Mrs. Pauline J. (Roberts) Rizzo, age 91, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on November 28, 1923, Pauline was the daughter of the late George and Jenny (Rinaldi) Roberts. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On June 18, 1949 she married Frank W. Rizzo and shared with him over half a century in a marriage of their time; they truly were a couple who were concerned about their children and family life. Frank passed away on May 31, 2002. Pauline was devoted and dedicated to her entire family. Along with working in the home, she held several part-time jobs including Lu-Bere Corsetry, Inc. and E. Cramer & Son women’s fashion store. When her grandchildren were born, she devoted her time and her love to being the best Nonnie and babysitter, pampering them without reservation. Pauline was the best of matriarchs. She was all about loving and caring for her family. She was a fabulous cook, always catering to each person’s cravings. She planned for every meal of the day, making sure that family gatherings and Sunday dinners were affairs to remember. She was an enthusiastic reader and solver of word searches. In more recent years, she enjoyed her Nook, a technological advancement for a woman of her age. But it was the blessings of her children and grandchildren who honored her wisdom and guidance that graced her life; she loved and was loved by each of them. Pauline is survived by her children, Salvatore G. Rizzo of Utica, Robert F. Rizzo of Jacksonville, FL, Paula J. Rizzo of New Hartford, and Joann M. and Joseph Wilk of Oriskany; her grandchildren, David M. Girmonde and fiancee Hilarie Elefante, Jordan Marie Girmonde (who was her only granddaughter and whose relationship she cherished) and friend Eric McLaren; Adam G. Wilk, and Michael V. Wilk. She also leaves her step-granddaughter, Tresure Murray and her late mother, Mary Rizzo, and Tresure’s son, Jace Murray. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sister-in-law Betty Roberts; and Mollie, the family canine, who lit up in Pauline’s company and had a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her brother, Vincent G. Roberts. The family extends appreciation to Sally O’Callahan, N.P. for her professional advice and friendship through the years; and the staff of the Lutheran Home/Willow Way Unit, for the comfort and kindness extended to Pauline during her rehabilitation. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Pauline’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Joseph Salerno. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
