Ms. Pauline "Polly" Maddox

Ms. Pauline “Polly” Maddox answered her call to Glory on May 29, 2025, while celebrating her 78th birthday with family and friends in the home of her sister, Rev. Pastor Marilyn Maddox-Bell. Polly was born on May 29, 1947, in Tampa Florida, to the late Robert H. Sr. and Lassie Mae Maddox. She joined her sisters, Deborah, Antoinette, and Cynthia, and her brothers, Rudolph, and Wayde Jerome, in the Glory of Eternal Joy in Heaven! She left behind sweet, precious, memories of her life with sisters, Mae Lois, Margaret, and Joelle (Tacoma, WA), Gloria, Pamela, Marilyn, and Darlene (Utica, NY); brothers, Robert/Deborah (Odessa, FL.), and Anthony (Tacoma, WA); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and her Church Family whom she did not cease to pray for. As a young child Polly spent several years in Broad Acres Hospital until she was well enough to re-join the family. She was educated in the public education system, attending Potter, Kernan, and graduating from Utica Free Academy. The majority of her working career was as a Seamstress at Joseph and Feiss. Her artistic Seamstress gift shined through the meticulous, expensive, good-looking men suits that she made. Those of us who knew Polly understood that she lived a peaceful, quiet life, and we also understood that her yea was yea, and her nay was nay; PERIOD! Whatever way it went; that was all she had to say about it! And if by chance one did not like it, she would respond: "Too bad, too sad!" She was authentically as real as they come. Polly was an avid reader with a Webster Dictionary about six or seven inches thick, which she read and studied. She was a master at spelling, and she could do math like she was a human calculator! She loved game shows, especially Jeopardy. She was smart enough to be a contestant; and smart enough to win! She also favored True Crime Dramas, and Court TV. While living with Pastor Bell, she grew to immensely enjoy Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, starring James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillon (LOL). She also enjoyed having a good plate of home cooked food at all times, with a hefty slice of Baptist pound cake for dessert, or a good helping of Pastor Bell's chocolate truffle. She was a quick thinker, and cleverly witty. She could make you laugh out loud with her cutting-edge humor. She was like a breath of fresh air, with a loving heart, and an exquisite smile that stood out as a beacon of compassion. We will keep the precious memories of her brief, beautiful time with us, alive in our hearts, and minds forever! Our Beloved "Sweet Polly" loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength; she embraced Jesus Christ as her Lord and Risen Savior; and she followed in the path of Righteousness by the Power of the Holy Spirit. We are greatly comforted knowing the Word of God is True! "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!" We are also greatly comforted knowing that "Sweet Polly Wally”, our Dearly Beloved Sister, is in the presence of God, and there she shall remain until we meet her again in that Great Getting up Morning, over in the Sweet, By-and-By! The Maddox Family extends our deepest, heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have graciously, and generously given of your hearts to comfort us during our sorrowful, and joyful season of transition by the absence of our Beloved. Callers may bid their farewell to Polly on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah St. Polly’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm at the church upon the conclusion of visitation. Those unable to attend physically may be present virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83180744153. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. This tribute was lovingly written by Polly's heartbroken family; yet we are greatly consoled by the Word of God that will not return to Him void; "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart!" (Psalm 34:8) Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
