Mrs. Pauline (Catera) Grande

UTICA – Mrs. Pauline (Catera) Grande, age 85, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022, in the comfort and dignity of her daughter Doreen’s home, with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 31, 1936, to the late Joseph and Cosmina (Marco) Catera, Pauline was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1955. On August 20, 1960, Pauline married the love of her life, Robert K. “Jap” Grande. The two were blessed with 60 years of marriage and were a match made in Heaven. Pauline and Robert were meant to grow old together and share the life that they did prior to his passing on April 5, 2021. Pauline began her career at a telephone company. After getting married and having children, she became the homemaker and caretaker of her children and then, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pauline’s whole life was dedicated to her husband and her kids, which to her, was a life fulfilled. She made everyone feel loved and always wanted to care for others. To many, she was referred to as their second mother. Pauline had a heart so full that she wanted to share it as much as she could. For fun, Pauline enjoyed bowling in a league with her girlfriends. In fact, Pauline could boast a number of bowling awards and trophies. She played cards with them as well. Additionally, she was an avid Yankee fan whose other hobbies included crocheting blankets and cooking. Pauline also enjoyed taking trips, especially to Saratoga Racecourse and to Yankee Stadium every year. A faithful Roman Catholic, Pauline always carried her rosary with her and went to church every week. She was a parishioner at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel. Pauline is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert K. Jr. and Mary Grande, Regina “Gina” and Timothy E. Histed, Doreen and Michael J. Heinrich Sr., and Paul Grande and former daughter-in-law, Rae Jessie “Toogie” Grande. Pauline will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren, Timothy, and Patrick Histed; Michael J. Jr., and Matthew Heinrich; Brittany Milder; and Jessica, and Paulana Grande. She was blessed to have as her great-grandchidren, Sonja Mildner, Aria Mildner; Rowan Aguilar; and Raelyn Roth. Pauline was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, John J. and Josephine M. (Lupia) Catera, Santo and Carmela (DeSantis) Catera, Michael V. Catera Sr., and Joseph Catera. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Catera, and Marilyn Catera; and the nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, who are too many to name but were so loved by Pauline. The family was blessed with the love and support of Christine Vetere and Angel Le, who are an integral part of the family. She leaves behind her good friends, Matt and Maria Kozak, Lucille DeSimone, Theresa Barone, and Loretta Francis. She will be rejoined with her good friend Lydia Cofano, together they will be playing cards again. Pauline was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rocco and Carmella “Cora” (Barbero) Grande; as well as by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Carmella Grande. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Frankfort Center Volunteer Fire Department for their fine care and compassion throughout the years in aiding Pauline. Additional thanks are extended to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for their warm and loving care. The family will honor and commemorate Pauline’s life privately. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Pauline’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of the Mass. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
