Patricia A. "Patty" Demme

Patricia A. “Patty” Demme, age 81, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her devoted family by her side. Born in Utica on April 4, 1929, Patricia was the daughter of the late Frank “Chick” and Bessie (Lupia) Demme. She was raised and educated in Utica and attended school locally. At one time, she had been married to Benjamin P. DeGeorge, who has since passed. During her working life, Patty was employed by Mele Manufacturing as an assembler for many years. Lastly, she worked for the Utica City School District at the central kitchen. A very perceptive and sharp-witted woman, Patty lived her life by her own guidelines. She had a style all her own --- she was independent, yet unique in the way she showed her affection and love. Always supportive and sensitive to those she knew and loved, she was also encouraging, loyal, and honest. She was blessed with a great inner strength, a bravery laced with laughter and humor that she relied upon during times that were good or challenging, especially in times of health challenges. She loved to cook and took pride in the meals she prepared as a way to show her affection. She was a dedicated mother to her own children and as the years passed, a doting grandmother as well. She became even more attentive and appreciative of her great-grandchildren. During her more active years she was an avid bowler and she loved to dance. She was gifted with vocal talents that she gracefully used as she accompanied her late husband, Benny, when they performed for local clubs. She was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge where she volunteered at their functions and especially enjoyed the dances. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Patty is survived by her daughter, Bonnie J. DeGeorge of Utica; her son, Stephen P. DeGeorge of Utica; her grandchildren, Frank Zammiello, Anthony J. and Sarah Zammiello, and Stephanie Alberico and fiancé Dan Kinney. Always close to her heart was the memory of her grandson, Salvatore Alberico, who passed away in 2005. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Giavanna, Mackenzie, and Daniel; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; her close friend, Kim Clancey; and her home health caregiver, Demaris. She was predeceased by her brother, Simone P. “Bunzy” Demme; her sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Salvatore “Sam” Monopoli; and the memory of her longtime friend, Beverly Basile. The family is grateful to Patty’s physicians, especially Dr. Dilip Kachare; and the nurses and staff of the Special Care Unit at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially Ryan and Ashley, who comforted and honored Patty during her illness. Patty’s family will honor and celebrate her life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service which will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
