Palma "Mamie" (Palmisano) Perretta

Mrs. Palma “Mamie” (Palmisano) Perretta, age 94, of Utica, went home peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, February 1, 2010 in Fairport, NY where she has been residing to be closer to her daughter and family. She passed away at the Highland Hospital with the love and support of her family. Born in the town of Alberobello in the province of Bari, Italy, on August 20, 1915, Palma was the daughter of the late Santo and Rosa (Filomeno) Palmisano. As a young adult, she and her family immigrated to the United States and Utica where she was raised and educated. On May 30, 1953 she married John J. Perretta with whom she shared nearly 42 years prior to his passing on April 20, 1995. As a couple, they shared the traditional values of life, loved each other unconditionally, and were blessed with a daughter who was their greatest joy. At one time, Mamie worked as a seamstress at the Oneita Knitting Mills. Her life was focused on her family and was fulfilled through her faith and her countless good deeds of generosity. She was happiest when she shared her precious time with family, especially on Sundays. Mamie practiced her Catholic faith daily, along with her sister, Nancy. For many years, she faithfully attended and honored her membership at St. Agnes Parish where she truly considered Monsignor Willenberg as a wonderful pastor and friend. Mamie will be remembered as a responsible and humble woman who lived a simple life, loved and beloved by many. Mamie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Thomas Wolanski of Fairport, NY with whom she had resided for the past 14 months; and her grandchildren, Sara Wolanski of Boston, Leah Wolanski, a student at Kent State in Ohio, and Michelle Wolanski of Fairport. Survivors also include her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Sam Simbari of Utica; many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family acknowledges the kindness and concern of Mamie’s neighbor and dear friend, Sari Jean Deluca, her tenant, Angelo Giacovelli, as well as her fellow parishioners at the 7:00 a.m. daily Mass at St. Agnes Church. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, John A. and Rita Palmisano, and Frank and Rose Palmisano; and her in-laws, Joseph “Jap” and Isabella Perretta, Rocco and Angeline Perretta, and Rose and Vito Greco. Ann and Tom wish to thank their aunt and uncle, Nancy and Sam for their years of compassionate love and support for Mamie’s well-being, as well as her nieces and nephews, especially RoseMary, Ricky, Dave, and Becky for the respect and concern they shared with their Aunt Mamie throughout the years. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. Mamie’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
