Oscar F. Kempf

Mr. Oscar F. Kempf, age 86, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born on February 23, 1921, Oscar was the son of the late Oscar and Bella (Fink) Kempf. He was raised and educated in the Tupper Lake area. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with the 27th Cavalry Regiment. On November 29, 1952, he was wed to Marion Jabour, and since their union they have been devoted to one another through ‘thick and thin’. During his working years, Oscar was employed as a cook at Marcy State Hospital. A kind, supportive man, he maintained a constant presence when he was needed. He was non-judgmental and generous of heart in his actions and deeds. He loved his family and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. His recreational passions were bowling and golfing. Patriotic in nature, he was a life member of the D.A.V. Stars & Stripes Chapter #82, and the V.F.W. in Schuyler. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Oscar is survived by Marion, his wife of 54 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Annette F. and John Brown; and his son and daughter-in-law, Edmond and Karen Kempf, all of Utica; and his grandchildren, Joseph Brown, David Brown, Rachel Brown, Alison Kempf, and Sarah Kempf. Also surviving is his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Fred Pilon of Watertown; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Joan Kempf of St. Louis, MO; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Anthony Jabour, Amelia Jabour, and Marion Jabour. The family also mourns the loss of Marion’s brother, William, on Thursday, June 28, 2007. He was predeceased by his brother, Edmond Kempf; and his sister, Eileen Kempf. Marion wishes to thank her children for their respect and love during this difficult time, and Father Bassam for his spiritual guidance and prayers. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered on Friday evening at 6:30 at the funeral home. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Mr. Kempf’s honor to St. Louis Gonzaga Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Oscar’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Bassam Saade, Pastor. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
