Mrs. Norma Janet (Schwartz) Bakert

FRANKFORT - Mrs. Norma Janet (Schwartz) Bakert, age 93, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY with her loving family by her side. Born in Buffalo on June 4, 1923, Norma was the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara (Rebhan) Schwartz. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School. On June 7, 1947 she married Arthur Charles Bakert with whom she shared a 64 year union. Arthur passed away on July 29, 2011. Norma worked as a secretary, homemaker, and lastly a bookkeeper in Accounting for the Chiropractic Family Care in Whitesboro. A kind soul, she volunteered her time at the Hope House and the Abraham House. Since 1959 Norma was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Parish until its closing, and later with Historic Old St. John’s Church. Norma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathleen Richmond of Cazenovia, Sara (Sallie) Bakert, Janine and Donald King, and Patricia Bakert Miceli, all of Utica; and Sharon and George Mills of FL. She held close to her heart the memory of her daughter, Dr. Mary Louise Yoder, who passed away on July 22, 2015. She also leaves her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Natalie Bakert of Sauquoit, and Arthur and Suzanne Bakert of Ithaca; her son-in-law, Dr. William Yoder; her grandchildren, Liana and Tony Hegde, Tamaryn Yoder and Dave Gravelding, Adam Yoder, Glynn Bebee and Dawn Eller, Karen Bebee Lavier; Jonathan Bakert; Heidi Bakert, Arthur Bakert; Dylan Bakert; David King, Amanda King, Andreanna Miceli, Brent and Janelle Pleeter, and Shaina Pleeter. She held close to her heart the memory of her grandson, Thomas Vincent Bakert, who passed away on May 27, 2012. In addition, she leaves many great-grandchildren; her brother, Eugene Schwartz of Oregon; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and brother-in-law, Richard Uschold. She was predeceased by her sisters, Sister Lillian Schwartz, and Joan Uschold; her sons-in-law, Charles Miceli, Bruce Richmond, and Morgan Bebee; and her in-laws, Howard “Howie” and Jane Bakert. Norma’s family will honor and commemorate her life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. John Buehler. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to the Rescue Mission of Utica; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro at the convenience of the family.
