Netta Piperata Emrich

Mrs. Antoinette “Netta” Piperata Emrich, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her family by her side. Antoinette was born in Utica on October 6, 1915, the daughter of the late Thomas and Carmella (Messiano) Graziano. Raised and educated locally, she attended Wetmore School. At one time, she was wed to Frank Piperata who passed away in 1971. She then shared in a second union when she wed Wilmer K. “Bill” Emrich on September 4, 1948. The couple had a 47 year union together that was blessed with devotion until his passing on November 10, 1995. At one time, Netta worked at the General Electric Company, and later became one of the first employees of Con Med, the position from which she retired. Netta embraced her Catholic faith as a member of the Sts. Cosmo and Damiano Society and a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Netta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Joan Piperata of New Hartford; her grandchildren, Lori and Nick Maggio, Jr. of New Hartford, and Thomas Piperata and Nancy Hartley of Seaford, VA; and her great-grandchildren, Steven Maggio and Matthew Maggio, both of New Hartford, and Teresa Piperata and her fiancé Richard Pedersen of Seaford, VA. Netta’s extended family includes her many nieces, especially acknowledging her loving niece, Marie Papale of New Hartford, who she loved like a daughter; nephews Thomas and Josephine Graziano, Louis and Dolores Papale, and George and Sandy Salem; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Frank Papale, Jennie and Arthur Salem; and her brother and sister-in-law, Manuel “Manny” and Laura Graziano. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion, and the personnel of the Villas for their loving support during Netta’s stay. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Antoinette’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 11:30 at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Kaminski officiating. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
