Nellie S. (Strzepek) Insalaco Peters

Mrs. Nellie S. (Strzepek) Insalaco Peters, age 87, of Marcy, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2006, at the St. Luke's Home with her family by her side. Born in Utica on September 4, 1918, Nellie was the daughter of the late John and Albina (Zebda) Strzepek. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica Free Academy. On June 12, 1937 in St. Patrick's Church she married John C. Insalaco with whom she shared a loving and devoted union of 43 years prior to his passing on September 25, 1980. Nellie and John owned and operated the Insalaco Insurance Co. for many years. In addition to her career as an insurance agent, Nellie also served for many years as the tax collector for the Town of Marcy. In 1987 she married a longtime and close friend, Frank Peters. Mr. Peters passed away on December 22, 1987. Nellie was considered to be the matriarch of the family. Her gracious manner and her concern for the needs of others earned for her the respect of her loved ones: everyone looked up to her as a role model. She was the oldest member of the Maynard Fire Dept. Auxiliary, receiving the fifty-year plaque in 2005. She was also a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of New York. Nellie's favorite pastime was gardening, and she was always especially proud of her flowers. She also enjoyed bowling. She was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Mrs. Peters is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rose Mary and Robert Comenale of Marcy; her grandchildren, Christine and James Wheeler of Marcy, Robert Comenale, also of Marcy, and his fiance Kim Rueb of Marcy, and Paula Malecki of Cicero; and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Wheeler, Karli Wheeler, Jon Wheeler, Courtney Comenale, and Madeline Comenale. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Marietta Zebda of Whitesboro, and Edmund and Dorothy Strzepek of Marcy; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, Wanda Strezpek of Whitesboro, and Dora Strzepek of Marcy. Nellie also leaves many dear and cherished friends, especially acknowledging Doris, Alva, and Mickey for their special visits. She was predeceased by three brothers, Henry who passed away as a child, Frederick, and Walter. The family offers its sincere gratitude to a dear friend, Jeanette, for the loving and caring attention she provided for Nellie. Thanks also to the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care Center, Allen Calder Wing 3W and to the Barton West Neighborhood of the St. Luke's Home for their compassionate care, Dr. Bhisham Garg and his nurse, Arlene, for the special care and attention they gave to Nellie. Visitation will be held today (Monday) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Nellie's name to the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary or to the Maynard Fire Dept.; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The funeral for Mrs. Peters will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary where the Reverend Felix Colosimo, a very close and dear friend of the family, will preside over her Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
