Nancy A. (DeMichele) Russo

Mrs. Nancy A. (Maria Comasia DeMichele) Russo, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community of Utica, NY. Born in the small town of Alberobello in the Province of Bari in Southern Italy on June 26, 1921, Nancy was the daughter of the late Francesco “Frank” and Antoinette (Ruggiero) DeMichele. As an infant, she came to America where she was raised and educated. On September 20,1947 she married Anthony Russo; they shared a loving union lasting 39 years. During her husband’s illness, Nancy cared for Anthony with great devotion until his passing in October of 1986. Nancy worked at the Oneita Knitting Mill and the Boston Store prior to starting a family. She was a dedicated mother, always there for her children. She was an admirable woman who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She had a passion for jewelry and cooking. She took pride in sharing her traditional homemade Italian specialties with her loved ones, especially during the holiday seasons. She was a member of the Italian Heritage Club of the Mohawk Valley, and the East Side Senior Center. She practiced her Catholic faith at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Denise Russo of Utica; her son, Philip Russo of Deerfield; and her grandchildren, Philip Russo Jr. of Syracuse, Michael Russo of Schuyler, Regina Russo of Syracuse, and Noelle Russo of Long Island. She also leaves behind her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,and long time friend Flora DeFazio. She was predeceased by her brother, Dominick DeMichele; her sisters and brother-in-law, Donna and Joseph Zennamo, and Theresa Zennamo. The family would like to thank the Staff on the Inlet Unit for their patience, care and compassion for Nancy during her stay at the Masonic Care Community. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Nancy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home and at 10:00 a.m.at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
