Nancy (Dano) Hotaling

Nancy (Dano) Hotaling, age 58, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on January 19, 1949, Nancy was the daughter of the late Frank “Dusty” and Jeanne (Whitmarsh) Dano. She was raised and educated locally. At one time she was married to Raymond F. Hotaling. Nancy’s career as an executive assistant at the Mid York Library System spanned 20 years until her retirement in 2003. As a loving, caring individual, Nancy was willing to listen, give advice, and provide a shoulder to cry on whenever she was needed. She was endowed with a sharp sense of humor and a spontaneous personality. Blessed with a strong maternal instinct, she was a protective ‘mom’ or ‘nani’ to everyone with whom she came in contact. In her spare time, she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, along with it’s Cell Group Bible Study. Nancy is survived by her daughters and their families, Pam and Henry Jasek of Ilion, Radene Hotaling, and Rhonda Hotaling and Fred Hnelosub, all of Utica. She held close to her heart the memory of her daughter Lisa J. Giehl who preceded her in death on February 20, 1999. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Henry, Jr., Joe, Sarah, and Matt Jasek; Raymond, Robert, and Gina Giehl; Kristle, Zackary, and Lisa Hotaling; Courtney, and Amber Hotaling; and her great-grandchildren, Brooke Jasek, and Arianne Faith Edwards. Always dear to her heart was her great-granddaughter, Lynzie Nichole Jasek Wilson who preceded her. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Michael Meier of Wake Forest, NC; her brothers, James Dano, and Donald Dano, both of Utica; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She also leaves her best friend, Jacque Empey; and her co-workers who loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her brother, Gerard Dano. The family extends appreciation to Centro NY Dial-a-Ride, especially Marie, Anthony, Alan, and Dave. Thanks also to the Dialysis unit at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, especially Theresa, the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center Allen Calder Wing, and the Emergency Room. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Nancy’s Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 8595 Westmoreland Rd., Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Marilyn Baissa.
