Millie "Mulla" "Milla" Spratt

UTICA - Millie “Mulla” “Milla” Spratt, age 77, reunited with her family members who have gone before her as she passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in Amory, Mississippi, on March 22, 1941, Millie was the daughter of the late Willie and Luesinda Spratt. In the early 1960’s, she and her family relocated to New York State. Millie shared a long relationship with Lindell "Frying Pan" Reed and to that relationship came a blessing of children. Lindell passed away on August 15, 2010. Millie was employed by the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center in the environmental service department, the position from which she retired. She was dedicated to her duties at work as she was devoted to her family at home. She was a generous grandma and her grandchildren loved going to her house. She recently spoke with De-Juan and Brooklyn of the family, imparting to them her words of wisdom and love of the Lord. Mulla was light-hearted and loved to have fun. She enjoyed many genres of music, but deep down she was a hip-hop girl, and she could do the Electric Slide! Every morning she listened to talk radio, and after that, she tuned in to her music. When her TV show came on, she was always ready to yell out the “Price is Right”! Her cooking was infused with a savory Southern flare. Her dressing was the best, no bones about it, and she instructed everyone that “you have to get your hands into it or it wasn’t gonna be right!” Banana pudding was another one of her specialties. Cookouts and family gatherings made her happy, and she loved to have visitors. A spirited woman, Millie spoke her peace and gave advice when needed whether you liked it or not. And she held court at any place and any time. Her wit, creative wording, and humor could take you down. Millie lived a humble life that revolved around the Lord. Millie is survived by her children James Spratt (Sandy Vatalaro), Millie Ward (Louis Watkins) , Linda Spratt, Michael and Glynnis Reed, Ricky Reed (Carmecita Rosado),Athya Reed, Aaron Reed-Montanez, and Sam Reed; 40 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sisters, Edith Huyler, and Flowreen "Donna” Spratt; her brothers and sisters-in-law, John "Coonboy" and Dorothy Spratt, and Willie and Beverly Spratt; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, Pearl Daniels of Chicago, and Martha Ann French of Mississippi; and her sister in-law, Callie Lewis of Pittsburgh. She was predeceased by her son, Lindell Reed who passed away in 1996; her sister, Carrie Lou Spratt; and her brother, Rev. Roger Spratt. The family extends their gratitude to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center/Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Unit for their love and support; Doctor Jerry B Sloan of Slocum Dickson Medical Group; Pastor Kathy Hughes for her prayers; special nurses Mekemba Jackson, Brooklyn and Linda Spratt, Michael and Ricky Reed , Aaron and Myzell Reed for their dedication and commitment to their mother and grandmother. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00-1:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Millie’s funeral service and Home Going Celebration will commence on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 immediately upon conclusion of visitation. The family will then process to her burial site in Forest Hill Cemetery.
