Mrs. Michelle C. "Mickie" (DeCarlo) Pepitone

UTICA - Michelle C. “Mickie” (DeCarlo) Pepitone passed away at the age of 69 on Friday, June 9, 2023 after being afflicted by numerous illnesses to which she had been so resilient. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her husband and loved ones. Mickie was born in Utica on July 9, 1953, to the late John J. DeCarlo, Sr., and Mary DeCarlo Weiss. She was raised in Clinton, and attended Clinton Grammar and High School, graduating in 1971. She continued her education at MVCC, graduating with an A.S. in Psychology. On July 7, 1979, Mickie married Nicholas “Nick” Pepitone. They were known affectionately as Nick and Mick. The two shared a loving relationship and a clear true devotion to one another for nearly 44 years. They were respectful of each other’s needs and were true kindred spirits. Mickie worked for a time at the Utica Credit Union preparing credit reports. She then worked at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in their Property and Casualty Division from 1976 to 1991 as a policy checker, and then progressed to quality control analyst. She was noticed for her attentiveness, and was promoted to Training Coordinator. Mickie then accepted a position at Utica National Insurance Company with numerous titles, aspiring to Training Coordinator and then to supervisor. She was a wonderful employee and was valued by her coworkers as a diligent and hardworking woman. Mickie had a desire to promote her inner self; from her appearance, always dressing for success, to carrying her reputation and responsibilities, and doing so with a humble nature for which she was admired. Mickie was a sensational baker, and she enjoyed preparing and giving trays of cookies every Christmas season. She also loved decorating her home, especially for Christmas. Everything was meticulously placed! She learned ceramics in her earlier years, as well as decorative painting known as Toal painting on wooden or metal objects. She leaves to her family many labors of love that she spent time creating. She enjoyed attending national conventions where she gained new ideas. She was fashioned to this artistry and was very talented! She was a valued shopper and was known to numerous local store owners. She had such a unique style and a flair. Both Mickie and Nick were dog lovers. MacIntosh was a miniature poodle, Sassy and Gabbie were Yorkshire terriers, Spunky was a Maltese, and Libby was her second toy poodle. Jeter, Roxie, and Angel are her surviving fur babies, each with their own personality. Don’t tell the others, but Jeter was her favorite! They are the children Mickie and Nick were blessed with. In 1980 to the 1990s, they had the opportunity to travel all over from the east coast and the west coast. She was fortunate enough to have made her to way to the Mall of the Americas. What a great experience for her! Mickie was a believer in the Lord and did His works quietly and meaningfully. Mickie is survived by her husband, Nick. She also leaves her memory to her sisters, Diane Kelly (and the late Richard D. Kelly, Sr.); and Tammy Firsching (and Jerry); and her brother-in-law Hank Wedgren, Sr., and her sister-in-law Bev DeCarlo. She held close to her heart the memory of her brother John J. DeCarlo, Jr. and sister Marie-Elena Wedgren. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Hank Wedgren, Jr.; Richard “Rich” and Heather Kelly, and John Joseph “Jay” and Alana Kelly; and her great-nieces and nephews, Mackenzie, Joshua, Madison, twins Cullen and Brayden; Caitlin, Jack, and Lia. She is also survived by numerous steadfast and loyal friends: Joyce, her painting buddy and former co-worker, Eileen, her former co-worker at Utica National and Coldwater Creek, and co-shopper, also Janet and Julie, good friends and former co-workers, as well as former co-workers, good friends, and members of the “Breakfast Club” Fran, and Carm; and her friend and hair-dresser Rose, who was so attentive to all of her needs. These gals all held a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her friend and fellow co-worker, Janice. In addition to her own parents, Mickie was additionally predeceased by her in-laws, Joseph and Lena (Scalzi) Pepitone. Mickie’s husband would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kenneth Visalli for being such a personal and professional physician, Dr. Charles Eldridge, her nephrologist, for being such a guiding light, as well as his PA Mike, and the staff at MVHS at St. Luke’s Campus for their compassionate and caring hearts. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society online at https://www.anitas-sshs.org/donate/. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mickie’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of Our Savior Parish - Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort.
