Mr. Michael D. "Mike" Colucci

UTICA – Michael D. Colucci, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on April 15, 1929, Mike was the son of the late Donato and Carmella (Partipello) Colucci and his step father, Archangelo Colello. Mike attended schools in Utica and Cortland after his family relocated. On May 1, 1948 he married Mary Cavo with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. In 1953, they relocated to Utica. Their life was blessed with love and respect for each other and their children. Mike worked as a stone mason with his brother-in-law Sam Cavo. He used his talents to support his family, passing on his skills to his children and others. In 1993, Mike retired from Marine Midland Bank Maintenance Department. As a respected patriarch to his family and friends, his faith, heritage and courage guided his life. He instilled in his family his values of hard work, optimism, hospitality, generosity and compassion. He and his wife shared a love of cooking. His happiest times were the holiday celebrations that he shared with his loved ones. Mike enjoyed camping, bocce, bowling, art, reading and travel. A parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Mike loved the Lord and was a tireless volunteer. Blessed with a miracle from the Lord, Mike received a kidney from his son Anthony in 2000. Mike is survived by his wife Mary, his children and their spouses, Carmela and Mario DeCarlo, Dominick and Linda Colucci, Vincent and Virginia Colucci, Ann Colucci Duesler, Anthony and Frances Colucci, and Joann and Kevin Kortright. He also leaves grandchildren, Dominick and Jessica Colucci, Angel and Roger Squires, Kelly and Darryl Yaddaw, Nicholas and Kristin Colucci, Mark and Audra Colucci, Terra and Florian Waitl, Nerissa Colucci, Anthony Colucci and Christina Edwards, Kevin Kortright, and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mike are his in-laws Yolanda Cavo, Ralph and Fiorina Cavo, nieces and nephews, and friends including Congetta DiPierro and family, and members of the Holy Name and Knights of St. John. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Nunzio and Maria Cavo, and Sam Cavo, along with two infant children. The family extends their thanks to Dr.’s Eldridge, Regulagadda and Sullivan, and to the staff of ICU and Special Care. Also to Fr. Mark, Fr. LaFache, and Pastor Walt. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 13, from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South Street. Mike’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Committal Prayers and Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider his beloved wife Mary.
