Mary L. (Szczygiel) Asyngier

Mrs. Mary L. (Szcygiel) Asyngier, age 91, of Frankfort, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Masonic Care Community of New York. Born in Utica on July 6, 1915, Mary was the daughter of the late George and Ida (Kowal) Szczygiel. She enjoyed her childhood in the homestead of her family’s dairy farm in Frankfort and was educated in a one-room schoolhouse in the town. On October 5, 1935 she married Frank Asyngier with whom she shared 43 years until his passing. As a couple, they were mutually respectful and devoted to one another, and always focused on family. At one time, Mary held a position at The Univac Corp. During her working years, she was a loyal and dependable employee with an enduring work ethic. She never complained or criticized, but enjoyed life’s daily blessings. Multi-talented, handy, and skillful in many aspects, she would ‘never let the grass grow under her feet’. She was a member of a weekly sewing club, and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She embraced her family and friends as they looked up to her and her smiling face. Her daughter and grandchildren were a vital force in her life, and she loved them dearly. Mary lived a selfless life and aspired to be a good person every day. She was devoted to the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and was a faithful parishioner of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church. Mary is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Arlene A. and Keith R. McNally of Frankfort; and her grandchildren, Mark S. and Ann McNally of Frankfort. She cherished in her heart the memory of her granddaughter, Christine M. Perta. Also surviving is her grandson-in-law, Alan Perta; her sisters, Anna Soberiaj, and Stella Brezinski, both of Frankfort; her brothers and sister-in-law, Stanley Szczygiel of New Hartford, and Joseph and Gladys Szczygiel of CA, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Szczygiel, her sister-in-law, Helen Szczygiel; and her brothers-in-law, Henry Brezinski, and Stanley Soberiaj. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Woodgate Wing at the Masonic Care Community of New York for their loving care. Visitation will be held on Thursday (today) from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s funeral will commence on Friday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church in New York Mills, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
