Mary F. (Nitti) Carlo

Mrs. Mary F. (Nitti) Carlo, age 85, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at the Masonic Care Community of NY with her family by her side. Born in Utica on December 20, 1920, Mary was the daughter of the late Alfonzo and Rosaria Nitti. She was raised here and attended local schools. On December 5, 1942 she married James J. Carlo, Sr. Throughout their 48-year union, Mary and James shared a devoted commitment to one another and their family life until his passing in 1991. Mrs. Carlo was employed with the General Electric radio receiver plant as well as the Mele Manufacturing the company from which she retired. Mary was a true family woman. She considered her motherhood to be the source of her joy and of her greatest accomplishment. She felt a deep sense of achievement in having provided guidance to the generations that followed her. She was a generous and thoughtful woman, one who always had an open door to family and friends and who could and would have a complete meal on the table at anytime. Among her favorite pastimes, she particularly enjoyed baking and crocheting, and with great generosity loved to share the results of her efforts with family and friends. She was especially noted for her delicious cookie trays. Mary was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and attended daily Mass there whenever she was well. She also had a deep and prayerful devotion to our Blessed Mother. Mrs. Carlo is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosanne M. and Randy Nethers of Newark, OH, and Denise M. Carlo-Olczyk of Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, James J. Jr. and Colleen M. Carlo of Utica; and her grandchildren, Justin Finehout, Jaime Finehout, Stacey Olczyk, Erika and Mike Yacobucci, Amanda Gazzilli, Matthew Carlo, and Kelsey Carlo. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, J.T., Jaeden, Christopher, Gianna and Riley, Gabrielle, and Gianna, Santina, Craig Jr., Kaylee, and Joey. In addition, her survivors include her nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Marie Lucarelli who was also her godchild; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her sister-in-law, Rosalie Nitti. She was predeceased by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Angelo DeStefano, Jennie and Tony Cubino, and Flora and Frank Mazza; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Beatrice Nitti, Nicholas Nitti, Frank and Theresa Nitti, and Joseph and Palmina Nitti; and a number of in-laws. The family extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Wilcox for the professional concern and compassion he offered to Mary and her family. Thanks also to the entire staff of 2 Master Mason at the Masonic Care Community of NY for the respect, affection, and commitment which they provided to Mary; each and every one of them is truly a special person. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. Carlo's funeral will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
