Mary E. (Rozonkiewiecz) Carbone

Mrs. Mary E. (Rozonkiewiecz) Carbone, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Pulaski, NY on August 17, 1917, Mary was the daughter of the late Mykhailo and Katherine (Pasek) Rozonkiewiecz. She was raised and educated in Pulaski. On February 27, 1943 she married Alfred S. Carbone, Sr. who passed away on October 12, 2006. The couple shared a beautiful 63 year union. They were inseparable. As the heart of the family, Mary kept everyone centered and strong. She was a woman who carried inside her a great and quiet strength, and her memory was immaculate. She always spoke kindly of everyone, and held friends and loved ones in a special place in her heart. As a great listener, she extended her warm personality and good nature to make everyone feel welcome. She lived a life fulfilled by caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always at peace in the kitchen, she loved sharing her cooking, especially her pierogi and lasagna and the harvests of her garden. A woman of many talents, she was an accomplished and published poet. She also enjoyed painting and continued her artistic skill by making and gifting her Ukrainian eggs during the Easter season. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John, the DAV, and a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Katherine and Thomas Bronk, and Theresa Carbone, all of Utica; and her sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred S. “Al” Carbone, Jr. of Cold Brook, NY and Jacqueline Carbone of Utica, and Joseph “Joe” and Mary (Schvihla) Carbone of Glendale, AZ. She was blessed with the relationship that she and her late husband shared with Eddie and Carmella Nassimos of Frankfort, whom they considered as a son and daughter-in-law. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas, Jr. and Erika Bronk, Mary (Bronk) and Christopher Wiater, Regina (Carbone) and William Rosell, and Renee Carbone; she cherished the memory of her grandson, Alfred III, who passed away in 1975; Christy Chapman, Josie (Nassimos) and David Oliver, Angela Nassimos, and Michele (Nassimos) and Bill Cook. In addition, she leaves her great-grandchildren, Owen David Bronk; Katherine, Arianna, Mackenzie, and Christopher Wiater; William, Zachary, and Benjamin Rosell; Taylor and Madison Oliver; and Alexandra Cook. She also leaves her sister Jenny; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; including a special place in her heart for her niece Grace Steppello, her sister-in-law, Rose Condon of Utica; her lifelong friend, Stella (Gnatek) Alley, and friends Lee Wheeler and her son Shawn. She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Avant; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Frances Rozonkiewiecz, and Mitchell Rozonkiewiecz and Margaret; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Maria Theresa (Gelfuso) Carbone; and her in-laws, Elizabeth “Betty” and Clint Merrick, Katie and Steve Glinski, Margaret and Cy Hale, John, Sr. and Theresa Carbone, Frank and Ang Carbone, and James and Rita Carbone. The family offers its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their attentiveness and compassion, and to the members of the Senior Network, especially Sandy and Jennifer, for their vigilance and guidance. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of St. John #321 will perform ritualistic services on Wednesday at 6:30. Mary’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 8:00 from the funeral home and at 9:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
