Mary D. (Pape) Palmieri

Mrs. Mary D. (Pape) Palmieri, age 92, of Utica, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with the love and support of her family. Born in Rome, NY on June 16, 1917, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lauretta (Clemente) Pape. She was raised and educated locally. On May 27, 1950 she was joined in marriage to Rocco F. “BaPa” Palmieri, Sr. with whom she shared 38 loving years prior to his passing on August 7, 1988. Mary’s profession as a bookkeeper yielded her various positions, most notably with the Oneida County Department of Social Services, from which she retired in 1979. A loving, family-oriented woman, Mary was appreciative of life’s blessings, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all their spouses. She was a good-hearted soul, active in local charitable organizations and donating her hand crocheted mittens to anyone in need. She was an avid NY Yankees fan, and in her younger years enjoyed bowling. She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica, and at one time, a member of the choir and Altar Rosary Society at St. Mark’s. Mary is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Tom Luley of Utica, Patricia and Steven Shea of Wincester, MA, and Roseann and Don Schram of Brockport, NY; her son and daughter-in-law, Rocco F., Jr. and Donna Palmieri of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Theresa and Grant Clester, Laura and Brian Smith, Mary Luley, Tom Luley, Jr., Matthew and Melissa Shea, Michael Shea, Kristen Shea, Sarah and Jeff Harradine, and Tom Schram; and her great-grandchildren, Maggie and Alex Clester, Lucy and Lily Harradine, Mason and Alex Schram. Survivors also include her sister and brother-in-law, Philomena and Frank V. Convertino of Utica; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph, Jr. and Barbara Pape of FL; in-laws, Robert E. Ionta, Eleanor Pape, and Ang Pazzola; and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. She was predeceased by her sister, Anna C. Ionta; her brothers, Pasquale Pape, and Frank Pape; and several in-laws. The family is very appreciative of the care and attention shown to their mom by the staff of the Monticello Household at the Masonic Care Community. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s funeral service which will commence on Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Mary’s honor to a charity of choice; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
