Mary C. (Caruso) Gentile

Mrs. Mary C. (Caruso) Gentile, age 75, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on March 30, 1932, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucia (Correnti) Caruso. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. On May 24, 1958 she married Joseph W. Gentile, Jr., with whom she shared 41 years until his passing on September 3, 1999. Their lifelong commitment to one another was constantly renewed and strengthened through their mutual love and respect for family life. Mary’s priority in life was caring for her family. She enjoyed socializing with friends and loved ones and it was her family and very special close friends who meant everything to her. Generous of heart, she always thought of others first. One of her special talents was baking and she made amazing cookie trays. She enjoyed traveling, especially on family trips. She took special pleasure in visiting her friends at the Schuyler Senior Center. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mary is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Teresa C. Gentile and John N. Femia of Oneida, Lucy and Ernie Rawding of Montville, NJ, Antoinette Gentile and Michael Melillo of Cedargrove, NJ, Susan C. and Marty Bell of Sauquoit, Julie and Alan Smith of N. Arlington, NJ, and Mary Lourdes Gentile of N. Arlington, NJ; her son, Joseph Gentile III of Utica; her grandchildren, Christopher John Femia, Francesca Ella Femia, Alex Rawding, Piper Anne Rawding, Matthew Randall, Austin Bell, Alivia Bell, Joseph Gentile IV, Allison Gentile, and Caitlin Gentile; and her daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Gentile. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Joseph Guarini of Rome, NY; her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Rita Caruso of Utica; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Bernice Caruso, and Louise Caruso, both of Utica, Annette and Arthur Loguidice of FL, and Anthony “Dick” Gentile of Marcy. She also leaves her many special friends, including Leonard and Theresa Vetere, Connie Mott, and Rudy and Frances DeTore. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry Caruso, Philip Caruso, and Dr. Mario Caruso. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
