Mary A. (Duniec) Szesny

Mrs. Mary A. (Duniec) Szesny, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in the comfort of her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on April 17, 1917, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Antoinette (Pretko) Duniec. She was raised and educated locally. At a young age, her mother passed away, leaving Mary to continue her mother’s legacy in raising the family. On October 10, 1936 she married John C. Szesny with whom she shared 52 years until his passing on July 19, 1989. Blessed with a marriage based on unconditional love, the couple gracefully balanced each other’s life. In her earlier years, Mary retired from General Electric Co. on French Road. A devoted mother, she instilled the values of love and discipline in her children, and taught them important life skills and the virtue of forgiveness. An intuitive and knowledgeable woman, she always kept her mind sharp by conquering crossword puzzles and avidly reading. Very faithful and religious, Mary was a dedicated parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon A. and Doug B. Marshall of Manlius, NY; her son and daughter-in-law, John G. and Bette Szesny of Schuyler, NY; her grandchildren, Tanya and Ken Gaynor of CT, Kent Marshall of Manlius, and Tamar, an exchange student from the Netherlands who became a part of her family; and her great-grandchildren, Joshua, and Nathan Gaynor. Also surviving are her sisters, Helen Zdanowicz, and Adele Lucas, both of Utica; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and several in-laws. She also leaves her dear friends, Walter and Shirley Szuba. She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter A. Duniec, and Edward J. Duniec; and her in-laws. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Mary’s honor to the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, 3221 South Lake Drive, St. Francis, Wisconsin 53235. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
