Mary Jane (Baker) True

Mrs. Mary Jane (Baker) True, age 87, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, on October 15, 1928, the daughter of the late George P. and Margaret (McColgan) Baker. As a child, she and her family relocated to upstate New York. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School/Class of 1947. She was married to Walter C. True who passed away in 1970. Mary worked at Mele Manufacturing for 26 years, the position from which she retired. She was a wonderful, selfless woman filled with love. The core of her existence was the wellbeing of her loved ones, and her sacrifice and hard work were the keystones in providing for them, virtues she held true to till the very end. She loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Along with her inner beauty, one of Mary’s most beautiful outer features was her incredible blue eyes. A woman of simple pleasures and a desire to please others, Mary loved road trips, playing cards and Bingo with her friends at Clinton Manor, and gardening. She was also an avid reader and a whiz at solving crossword puzzles. Mary was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed attending Christian Services at the St. Luke’s Home officiated by her grandson “Pastor Dan”. Charitable of heart, she gave her support to the Paralyzed Veterans Association of America, a charitable organization of which she was an honorary member. Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, David and Karen True of Newark NY, Patricia and Edward Sajdzikowski, and Robert and Gertrude True, all of Utica, Paul and June True of Oriskany, and Susan Delaney of Utica. Always close to her heart were the memories of her son, George W. True, who passed away on December 3, 2012, and her infant son, Charles, who passed away on April 28, 1954. She was also loved by her 17 grandchildren; and many cherished great-grandchildren. She treasured the memory of her great-granddaughter, Shawna Marie Delaney, who preceded her on September 16, 1995. In addition, she leaves her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and George “Richard” True. The family is grateful to Mary’s personal physician, Dr. Amy Gorczynski, for her many years of compassionate care. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 at the conclusion of visitation with Sister Betty Giarrusso, CSJ officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro at the convenience of the family.
