Mrs. Mary (Ferrese) Sabo

Mrs. Mary (Ferrese) Sabo, age 94, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Utica on February 3, 1922, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Concetta (Buccina) Ferrese. She was a member of the first graduating class of T.R. Proctor High School. In November of 1943 she married Joseph G. Sabo with whom she shared 32 years prior to his passing on May 18, 1976. Their marriage was filled with the joy of family and the blessing of two respectful sons. Mary was graced with physical beauty and beautiful principles that guided her life. Her compassionate soul made her sensitive to the needs of others. She was a good person and a good friend. To her family, she was an angel and a bright light. Her grandchildren kept her days busy and she shared a wonderful relationship with them. They reciprocated her love and attended to her needs. Mary treasured her many memories of camping out during the summer months at Christmas Tree Park in Forestport. They were great days, filled with fun and fresh air, gathering and relaxing with family and friends in the outdoors. Mary was also renewed by her unwavering Catholic faith. Her great spirituality and the Sacrament of Holy Communion were a source of strength and inspiration throughout her life. Mary is survived by her sons and their loves, George Sabo and Kathy Ganci, and Gregory Sabo and Sally Whitaker; and her cherished grandchildren, Richard Sabo; Joseph Sabo, Shannon Sabo, and Dena Sabo. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Rose Ferrese; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Netty and James Rivecca, and Rosina Ferrese. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. Richard Dellos officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
