Mrs. Mary T. (Sisti) Perta

UTICA - Mrs. Mary T. (Sisti) Perta, age 99, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her loving son and family by her side. Born in Utica on March 21, 1920, Mary was the daughter of the late Alexander and Catherine (Salerno) Sisti. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On May 11, 1946 she married Anthony R. “Tony” Perta with whom she shared 68 years in a marriage of their era. Their love allowed them to be great companions and the best of friends. Mary began her working life at Griffiss Air Force Base in the Inventory Department. She subsequently accepted a position at General Electric at the Broad St. Radio/Receiver Plant as an assembler. Lastly, she was employed at Utica College, first as a Secretary for the Science Department then as a Data Processor, the position she held until her retirement. Mary embraced the mindset that “working kept her active and young”. During her “new free time”, she babysat her grandchildren and was “GG” to her great-grand babies. Blessed with a caretaker’s heart, Mary was a supportive matriarch to all the generations of her loved ones, and in return, they loved her and checked up on her. A meticulous housekeeper and hospitable host, she was happiest when family gathered at her home. She always prepared a feast and her family feels that nothing they prepare could compare to hers. Mary enjoyed being a part of the Cousins Club and visiting the Casino. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, and in more recent years she renewed her faith each week by viewing Mass on ETWN. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michele A. and Randy E. Williams; her son, Anthony P. Perta who cared for and resided with his mom; her grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly Williams, Mark and Hilary Williams, Brian and Alyssa Williams, and Christine Williams and Brandon Lewis; great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Kathryn, and Kendall Williams; and Hunter Williams; sister, Philomena “Fay” Policelli; and brother, Robert A. Sisti. She also leaves her nieces, especially Sandy Grounds who lovingly cared for her aunt; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Rose and Pasquale Brindisi, Fred and Yolanda Sisti, Gloria and Frank Zammiello, and Alessandro “Alex” and Pat Sisti; and her in-laws, Andy Policelli, “Ginny” Sisti, Dean and Roseanne Perta, John and Myrtle Perta, Lee and Art Pistolese, and Tess and Connie Grieco. The family extends sincere thanks to the Visiting Nurse Association, especially Michelle who went above and beyond in caring for Mary with love and compassion. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:30-11:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Mary’s memory may make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital online at https://www.stjude.org. Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
