Mrs. Mary V. (Militello) Paratore

Mrs. Mary V. (Militello) Paratore, age 82, crossed over peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Pines of Utica with her loving daughter who was honored to be her side. Born in Utica on June 9, 1933, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia (Felice) Militello. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. She married Frank P. Paratore on June 20, 1953. They were a couple devoted to the vows of marriage; he passed away on December 21, 2014. Affectionately known to her family as St. Mary, she was the first in line to offer spiritual guidance or intercession if a prayer was needed for someone. Her home was always open to her loved ones, especially her nieces and nephews who would often seek solace from Aunt Mary. She was the life of the party, and her home was the setting of many happy celebrations. Her leisure interests included solving puzzles, knitting, and preparing her homemade soup for her family and friends. She enjoyed her walks throughout the city and she found peace at the family camp at White Lake. She was devoted to her Catholic creed and was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and volunteered her time at the soup kitchen to serve those in need. Mary is survived by her daughter, Gina Paratore of Utica; she held close the memory of her granddaughter, Amber M. Paratore, who preceded her in 2014; and her great-granddaughters, Kayla Marie Paratore, and Alexis Rose Jodway. She will also be missed by her sister, Angeline Perta; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony Militello and JoAn Cardamone, and Joseph Militello, John and Kathleen Militello; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law Constance “Tina” Romano; and her friend, Betty Frank. She was predeceased by her brothers, Rev. Ignatius Militello, Samuel Militello, and James Militello; her sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Ralph Testa; nephew, David Militello; and in-laws, Peter A. Perta Sr., Anna and John Percola, Sara and John Spina, Maria “Mary” and Anthony Ciruzzi, Joseph and Marion Paratore, Samuel Paratore, Vito, Eddie, Jim, John, and Peter Paratore; Rosina Leonardi, Fannie Bono, Florence DiGristina, Marian Arena, and Mario Romano. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the 3rd floor at The Pines of Utica for the exceptional care shown through their respectfulness and affection. A special note of appreciation to her nieces Josephine and Anne who were extremely devoted and attentive to Mary. Mary’s visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:30 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church at 702 Columbia St., followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
