Mary Grace Johnson

UTICA - Mary Grace Johnson, age 66, of Utica, NY and formerly of Newark, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Oneida Healthcare Center in Oneida, NY, with her loving family at her side. Born on June 7, 1956 in Newark, New Jersey, Mary was the daughter of the late Grace C. Johnson & the late James R. Campbell; she was also raised by Ella and William Farley of New Jersey. She was educated at Eastside High School in Newark, New Jersey. Mary worked as a supervisor in multiple jobs: including at the video company and toy company while in New Jersey. Mary long had a passion and a place in her heart for helping people, especially the elderly. Mary became a CNA to make sure she could do what she was passionate about, “helping older people.” Mary worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, where she worked tirelessly to give the best care to all her residents. She was preparing to retire after working for over 20 years as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Mary grew up going to church and knew the Lord from an early age. She sang in the choir at Paradise Baptist Church up until the time she relocated to Utica, New York. Mary had a reputation for being a hard-worker. She enjoyed making crafts and creating arts – often listening to old school music and watching the Golden Girls while doing so! Mary enjoyed her food; she especially enjoyed herself some Fried Bologna, KFC, Sweet Potato pie, and she would never leave her favorites out: Ravioli and a nice cold Pepsi. Mary enjoyed her alone and down time but when she spent time with family there was much fun and laughter around. Mary enjoyed spending some of her free time at the Casino and that is where she would be if you could not find her at home. Mary is survived by her loving children, Anthony (Lytte) Johnson, Michael (Bird) Johnson; (Quanetta Shealey), Danny McMillian, Keith and Tyree Snead all of Utica, New York; 9 grandchildren, Anthony Wilson Jr., Destiny Johnson, LeAsia Johnson, Rashaun Chester, Kuas’haun Brown, Faqir Johnson, Journey Johnson, Qualyiah Johnson and Asiah Hudson; and 3 great-grandchildren, Faith Wilson, Melanni Wilson and Avie Johnson. She also leaves 9 sisters, Alfreida Hunter, Helena Johnson, Dora Coardes, Gloria Giles, Katrina Edwards, Vivecca Clark, Bernice Fitpatrick, Francis, Yolanda and Stephanie Eady; and 2 brothers, Richard Brown, and Randy Campbell, Jr. Although Mary loved all her family there were some she had a special place in her heart for Aunt Delores Moore, Trubee Greene, and Uncle William Baldwin Sr.; her Godchild, Iris Fitzpatrick; favorite nieces, Christina Carpenter (weebok), and Aneesha Galloway; and her friend, Allison, who will miss working with her at the Utica Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Grace C. Johnson & James R. Campbell, and Ella & William Farley; also, Tonee Morgan, Paul Johnson, Martin Brown, Richard Esquire Jr., Juanita Baldwin, Karron & Annarrie Johnson. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
