Mrs. Mary "Marie" (Teti) Dion

Mrs. Mary “Marie” (Teti) Dion, age 68, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in the privacy of her home with the love and support of her family. Born in Calabria, Italy on October 28, 1944, Mary was the daughter of the late Antonio and Congetta (DeLuca) Teti. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 as a child and was raised and educated in Utica, attending T.R. Proctor High School. On May 15, 1971 she married Gerald Dion, Sr. with whom she shared 41 years. Marie held several working positions over the years including the General Electric Company and Joseph & Feiss Company. Marie was hard-working and devoted to her family. She was blessed with a good sense of humor and a strong will. Her warm and nurturing nature shined through whenever she cared for children, and she held a closeness to Dwayne Morris, Joshua DiMasse, Kylie, Santos, and Carmen. Marie was proud of her cultural heritage and partook of the culinary delights of her native Italy. She also loved the serenity of her home and her quiet, long walks. She treasured her friendship and camaraderie with her son Gerald, and her sister-in-law Ruthie. Marie was devoted to her Catholic religious beliefs and attended the former St. Agnes Church and more recently the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Marie is survived by her husband Gerald; her daughter, Maria Dion Almond and her husband Robert of FL; her son, Gerald Dion, Jr. of Utica who held a special bond with his mother, and Sonja Gundersen; her 3 step-daughters Renee (Geraldine), Bernadette, and Karen; her grandchildren Audriana, Krista, Daniella, and Gianna; and her great-grandchildren Gabriella, and the expected birth of her 2nd great-grandchild. In addition, she leaves her sister, Joanne Teti and her husband Milan, and her sister Chancy Teti; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dominick and Pat Teti, and Joseph and Michelle Teti; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, step and half-grandchildren, friends, in-laws Ruth DiMasse, whom she spent a lot of time with, and Mike Ryan; and a special aunt and uncle, Alice and Rocky Gigliotti. She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Congetta (DeLuca) Teti; her father and mother- in-law, Michael and Ruth DiBenedetto, and brother-in-law, Salvatore M. DiBenedetto; and her devoted canine companion Buddy. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Marie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
