Mary (Garro) Lisi

Mrs. Mary (Garro) Lisi, age 87, of Utica, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her loving son by her side. Born in Utica on September 28, 1921, Mary was the daughter of the late Santo and Anna Theresa (Didio) Garro. Raised and educated locally, she attended Brandegee Elementary School and graduated from T. R. Proctor High School. In 1950 she married Joseph Lisi with whom she shared a loving and devoted union of 21 years until his passing on August 7, 1971. The heart and soul of Mary’s life was her family. She cared for them and saw to their needs, especially her grandchildren who brought joy to her life and brightened her days. At home, she found pleasure in her favorite pastimes, cooking and baking, which also served to bring her family together throughout the year. Mary was dedicated to her Catholic faith and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Laurie Lisi of Utica; her grandchildren, Alyse Lisi, Anthony Lisi, Joseph Lisi, and Kelsey Lisi, and their mother, Theresa Paladino; her great-grandchildren, Loralei Lisi and Bennett Lisi. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, especially Carissa Summa, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Gloria Lisi. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Lena J. Garro, Michael and Anne M. Garro, John A. and Rosemary Garro, Joseph A. Garro, and Rocco and Rose Garro; her sister and brother-in-law, Rose A. and Thomas Ciccone; and her brother-in-law, John R. Lisi. The family is grateful to Dr. Bhisham Garg for his professional concern, and the nurses and staff of 3West at the Allen-Calder Wing of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, especially Joyce, Jenny, and Sarah, for all the care and attention shown to Mary. Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Mary’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
