Mary (Chanatry) Murad

Mrs. Mary (Chanatry) Murad, of Utica, went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, July 20, 2008 when she passed away at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center surrounded by her four sons, their families and her siblings. Born in Utica, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Ameena Chanatry. She was raised in Utica and attended local schools. On August 10, 1947 she was joined in the sacrament of marriage to Anthony F. “Tony” Murad and shared with him a devoted union for over 47 years prior to his passing on February 25, 1995. During her youth, she was an integral part of the development and growth of her family concern, Chanatry’s Market. From bagging potatoes to cashiering, she was passionate and motivated to serving others. She was extremely proud of her family’s business and its success. However, she was proudest of her children, who she affectionately referred to as “my sons”, all of whom are lawyers. For Mary, it wasn’t their profession that touched her soul, but it was their integrity, respectful ways, and love they shared with their parents and family. Mary’s greatest virtues were her unassuming nature, her honesty, and her selflessness. She was content in supporting the well-being of her husband and sons in their life’s activities. When her sons were in school, she was a member of the Mother’s Club. In more recent years, she enjoyed sharing time with her friends, Gloria Galotti, and Vicki Tehan, during their morning coffee klatch. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Guild, the Christ Child Society, and a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Mary is survived by her “4 boys” and their wives, Gregory M. and Jeanne Murad, George C. and Luann Murad, Frederick W. and Sheila Murad, and Anthony A. and Lenora Murad; and her grandchildren, Michelle Murad, and Andrew Murad; William H. Horton; Maria C. Murad, Francesca A. Murad, and Anthony A Murad, Jr. Survivors also include her sisters and brother-in-law, Nellie Chanatry, and Antoinette C. “Ann” and Alexander Murad; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Joseph Chanatry, U. S. Air Force Lt. Col. Frederick and Teresa Chanatry, and William and Janet Chanatry; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her in-laws, the Honorable John L. Murad, and Anne and Joseph Flint. She was also blessed with many friendships throughout her life. She was predeceased by her brothers and a sister-in-law, Louis Chanatry, and Edward and Mary Chanatry; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Bea” Chanatry, and Patricia Murad; and her in-laws, Mary and Angelo Brindisi, George Murad, Jennie and Vincent Singe, and Nellie and George Kazanjian. The family offers special thanks to Dr. Fred L. Talarico, Rose Wild, who was Mary’s ‘administrative assistant’, and Dr. Ashok R. Patel whose love and kindness to Mary and her family will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Mary’s honor to the Peacemaker Program, Inc. or to Upstate Cerebral Palsy; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday morning at 11:30 from the funeral home and at 12:30 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be offered. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, where all are welcome
