Maritza (Cotto) Gonzalez

Mrs. Maritza (Cotto) Gonzalez, age 51, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Siegenthaler Center. Born in Puerto Rico on December 3, 1963, Maritza was the daughter of the late Feliciano and Justina (Lopez) Cotto. At the age of nine she moved to Connecticut with her family. Maritza was married to Raul Gonzalez, Sr. who passed away on December 8, 2004. They shared in a union that was blessed with four children. Maritza was employed by St. Luke's Hospital retiring in 2004 due to her health restrictions. She also held housekeeping and environmental services positions at Hamilton College and various other area businesses. Always a happy person, Maritza would speak her mind when she felt her advice was needed. She had a motherly nature balanced with a loving generosity. She took pride in her home and kept it immaculately clean. Maritza was most proud of the good choices her children made and the achievements they accomplished. And she was thrilled to be a part of her grandchildren's lives. A stylish woman, she loved to shop for fashionable apparel. She also enjoyed dancing, especially the “salsa”. Maritza’s spirituality and Catholic faith guided her life and gave her peace and the promise of God’s salvation. Maritza is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Julio Gonzalez of Connecticut; her sons, Raul Gonzalez, Jr. of Utica, Alejandro Gonzalez and fiancée Jennifer Potoczny of New York Mills, and Raymond Gonzalez of Utica; her cherished grandchildren, Josh Martinez of CT, and Alessandra Gonzalez of NY Mills. She will also be remembered by her sisters, Selenia, Elia, Olga, and Iris; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several in-laws with special mention of her sister-in-law, Blanca Rosa Gonzalez. She was predeceased by three brothers. The family is grateful to the staff of the Siegenthaler Center for the excellent care provided to Maritza, especially acknowledging Laura for her compassionate care. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 10th from 11:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Maritza's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Sunday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Sister Elizabeth Giarrusso, CSJ officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
