Mrs. Marion (Sokolowski) DiNardi

Mrs. Marion (Sokolowski) DiNardi, age 67, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in the privacy of her home. Born in Utica on August 23, 1943, Marion was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Ziajka) Sokolowski. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Catholic schools. On June 26, 1965 she wed Joseph DiNardi who passed away on August 17, 1976; they shared a blessed marriage and were truly the love of each other’s life. Joseph was a dedicated husband and father who treated his family ‘like gold’. Marion started her working career at the Utica Observer-Dispatch, and then devoted more than 30 years to her employment at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Dietary Department, the position from which she retired. Graced with a strong work ethic, she was always industrious, hard at work, and respectful of people. As a mother, she took great care and love in raising her daughters and ensuring their success in life. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and for relaxation she liked to travel to the Adirondacks and locations harboring lighthouses in CT. For her love of decorative adornments, she was affectionately known to friends and co-workers as the ‘earring lady’. After retirement, she enjoyed time with her sister and occasional trips to the casino. Marion is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Michele and Mark Fields, and Dawn DiNardi and Chris Coleman; and her grandchildren, Francesca and Anthony Fields, and Brendon DiNardi. She also leaves her sisters Gerri LaManque of CT, and Carol Sacco of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging her cousin and neighbor, Virg Malecki; and in-laws, Betty and Harold Burton, and Rocco DiNardi. She was also favored with many friendships, especially Elaine Ward, Joan Tallman, and Anita Trotta; and special “in-laws”, Liz and Budda Sacco. She was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Sokolowski; and her in-laws, Catherine DiNardi, Laura and Larry Russo, Bernie Sacco, and Claude LaManque. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
